And just to put an end to this I didn't post here to debate about all this Assault rifle and ammo crap it just kind of happened..

I feel perfectly safe with a handgun. And saying I couldn't own an Assault rifle as a citizen affects my rights in no way IMO.

But please logical reasons why general population/citizens should need to own a fully automatic high powered weapon.. Id love to hear them.

of a bible and a gun

I found this ironic since both god and guns were present when those 20 kids were getting gunned down

Now if the entire school staff would have been armed that is a diffrent story.

I'm all for my right to have arms "within reason" but this makes me think.. The NRA has almost 5 million donating members and they cant get a gun safety/awareness program going in schools.. Where does this money go?

The best reason for owning full auto weapons is because that is what the enemy will be carrying. You don't want to be outgunned.

I don't see mass invasion happening anytime soon the apocalypse was 3 days ago.

And we have a great military, The best actually. I'm sure they wont be on vacation.

No. The defining characteristic of an assault rifle is select-fire, i. e. at least semi-and full-auto, selectable by means of the safety switch. Burst mode is optional.
The gun you described is semi-auto only and thus not an assault rifle.
(Minor quibble: ARs do not use clips, but magazines. And the idea of an "illegal magazine" boggles the mind.)

I will not use the term "assault weapon" because it is a dishonest fabrication by journalists and their editors. cn

yeah im not a huge gun guy myself but ive been astonished by the lack of knowledge in the media. well i guess not that astonished because truth today is to hard and time consuming. but shit, i watched someones show on msnbc (two nights after the shooting)where they just pounded false information down the cameras throat for close to an hour.

After reading this thread and the others like it, it's fairly clear the "scary look gun" banners have had ample opportunity to educate themselves on what is an "assault rifle." They are intentionally misrepresenting the weapon in every post for the sole purpose of getting under their opponent's skin, here on RIU and in the media.

Fuck them. Who gives a shit what these dolts think? I sure as hell don't.

Their stupidity and attempts to antagonize gun owners will only result in 5 years worth of the rifles they hate being sold over the next 6 months. I just read an article about 3.5 years worth of high capacity magazines being sold in the last week. The manufacturers can't come close to keeping up with the demand.

That's right chuckleheads, YOU are causing an avalanche of "assault rifles" to be brought to the streets. Many of them purchased by people who wouldn't normally purchase one and many by people who probably SHOULDN'T buy one. Well done you.

Oh yeah, Merry Christmas.
