No. The defining characteristic of an assault rifle is select-fire, i. e. at least semi-and full-auto, selectable by means of the safety switch. Burst mode is optional.
The gun you described is semi-auto only and thus not an assault rifle.
(Minor quibble: ARs do not use clips, but magazines. And the idea of an "illegal magazine" boggles the mind.)

The government knows it does not have enough dumbass employees to go around and ask for people to give up thier weapons, if they did, the employee turnover rate would be unsurmountable...lol If you are in or have a child in the military, I would encourage them to disobey any order for gun confiscation in America, because if they don't, many will become statistics in a very bloody story in American history. Simple as that.

Thank you for pointing that out for everyone, I meant it exactly as it sounded. If you place the term assault on the weapon, does that make the gun anymore deadly than the next. Not one bit.
Lets take it a step further, without bullets, a gun is about as useful as a fence post.
The term assault has nothing to do with the weapon, as they are all capable of the same deeds.( more people have died from handguns than assault rifles) The problem is the people, not the guns, so please save the college definitions for the classroom, cause out here in the real world, that shit don't add up.

If the high capacity mags aren't available, he'll just buy twice as many of the others and tape them end to end. Weight difference is negligible and changing mags won't slow him down a lick.

Wait.. Which legal rifles are sold in stores and have the same caliber and firing rate as a fully automatic AR-15 with a 100 round magazine?

My point is why have these items available for general public? That's like selling grenades in the sporting department at wal-mart and trusting that people will be responsible and do the right thing.

I think that with today and the way there are so many mentally unstable people among us why have these things available at a store? Handguns, sport rifles and shotguns are deadly enough but these Assault style rifles are one kit and a magazine away from being a full on weapon of war.

Why do we need rifle's that are identical to the ones used by the military in the hands of general population? there is no good reason unless your in the boat with the guy saying "when the apocalypse happens I'll be ready" and I mean really if you really are a gun enthusiasts you know you can just trade or buy just about any gun you want through private deals. But at least if these weapons are not available for purchase at the store it lessens the chance of them slipping into the wrong hands. And that sure does not sound like a bad thing imo.
