It's not the suspension that they're fighting so much as what will go on his permanent record. They're saying he threatened to kill another student and that'll follow him for life.

So the parents are trying to teach the child not to be culpable for his actions. Nice. It will only follow him if he continues to get in trouble and there's a reason to look at his record. Though I thought it would fall off when he turns 18.

He didn't actually threaten harm to another student, he was playing. So no, he shouldn't take blame for something someone else is trying to say he did.
