Any of you ever pay for therapy?

Why did you seek therapy/counselling?

Do you feel it has benefited you?

How much did it cost?

I feel like this could help me deal with some issues, just wondering if anyone here has had any first hand accounts

I have been (no shock to many of ya huh?) My folks since the age of about 14 took me to group therapy where I refused to speak.. (money well spent mom and dad) later on after my buddy was killed in a car wreck we were in.. just had no concept on how to act and deal with his death.. went to one back then
after using narco's for pain and going thru pain management programs etc.. went to group therapy then.. and again later on.

cost? insurance paid for most of it..

speaking to someone else always helps sort out issues be it personal or political.. it gives you a different (hopefully) educated view...

If you feel you need the advice and want an outside opinion or clinical diagnosis, then yes it will probably benefit you. Half of the idea behind counseling is that you believe you need it, therefore you are more receptive and feel that it helps. I think it is worth trying since you want to. I used to have to attend sessions regularly, given what I did for the government. I am not saying my approach was correct, but I never said anything. I had learned from my peers that I did not want anything in writing in my medical jacket that could be used at a later date. I have first hand information of guys that ended their military career, moved on to the private sector earning six figures, and then were terminated b/c their employer found out their past work for the government. Is it legal, no. Is it morally correct, no. Does it happen, damn straight.

Regarding cost/ fees. If you involved in the MMJ community, I would be willing to guess you could find someone local that could possibly help you with little to no fees. Remember, therapy is what you make it. I do not know the severity of what you are feeling, but a long walk with my dog and cleaning my weapons always helped me ;)

My friend, I also wanted to add my tip for success. I do self-reflection every day, and I remember that it can always be worse. Sounds simple, but tell yourself, reinforce it, and believe it.

You sure like to ponder the intricacies of life Padawan. If one were to just look at your started threads they would think that you are someone who wants to go to therapy because you're gay and you are afraid the military won't accept you. Sorry I think that's the scissor hash talking. :eyesmoke:

I have on several occasions. I even went through four years of Reparative Therapy (trying to turn straight and worse mistake of my life). When my partner was murdered I had a hard time coping. What happened to him was horrible and I kept thinking what he was thinking and going through before he finally died. It was devastating. I found a good therapist and she was a wonderful fit for me. I got through it finally. It was hard and an uphill struggle but she kept a fire under my butt and challenged me constantly. Like my dad always says, If it's easy you ain't doin' it right. :p

She was at a clinic that accepted payment on a sliding scale based on income. It was very affordable.

just be leary of their drugs....that stuff is crazy powerful and can/will change you, possible forever.
Therapists dont/cant give drugs, only psychiatrists and other doctors can.

To the OP, I went to therapy for a while and it was helpful. It can feel good to purge a lot of the bullshit and stress that you normally wouldnt want to air out to other people. Insurance normally covers it if you have it,when I went it was only a $10 copay.

If I were gay and wanted to join the military I wouldn't let it hinge on anyone elses acceptance of me or my life.

I don't really have anyone to discuss personal things with and I believe that has contributed to why I feel the way I feel sometimes

Call it an early life crisis, something most of us probably go through in our 20's, figuring out where your life is going, how to get there, what you want and why, how to find happiness, that type of stuff..

I'd like this person to be someone I already trust, but I feel like some of the things I'd like to talk about should be with a total stranger to avoid any personal judgment

Except I don't have insurance at the moment, and I'm not sure how that would look on a military application if I ever do decide to join, I know that was one of the questions that was asked so it would likely be an issue

Naw I'm just kidding I read it. The insurance thing sounds like it could be a problem. No idea about the military thing. PM me and for $10 a PM I'll give you sound life advice. J/K Sorry I'm so high right now.

If by therapy, you mean massage therapy, and by massage therapy, you mean a rub and tug, then yes. I have paid for therapy. Usually about a c-note after tip.

Court ordered anger management, $176 per session. 2 sessions per week for 6 weeks. All he did was have me take multiple choice tests and tried to prescribe me something I turned down. Therapy is a joke.

it may take a bit of trying out different people to find a good fit ime..
i've been to therapy, mostly through my long addiction to hardcore drugs, and have to say it can be rather enjoyable, so long as you find someone that you get on with.. nothing worse imo than getting a therapist that you don't like for w/e reason, or whom you think may be judging you on some level.
like has been said, it's always nice to be able to bounce idea's or thoughts off of a professional.. sometimes just getting things off of your chest is all it takes to make you feel better, often times it takes much more work then that..
all in all, i think anyone who goes to a good therapist will only better themselves as a result if they're willing and open to suggestions.. going in kicking and screaming on the other hand never ends well ime..

Thanks but I wouldn't really feel comfortable discussing my issues here, like I said, it would probably be better to speak to a professional who I don't know, and even that would probably be pretty tough

Unfortunately there are "therapists" who are only in it for the money. They don't care if you heal or not. I met several people like that at the facility where I worked. They got the court ordered treatment people all the time and didn't give one shit whether they helped or not. That's one of the reasons I left the field. I got sick of the shit. I'm sorry you got one of the bad ones.

I understand. As you said in another of your threads, it IS ok to be gay. The sooner you accept it for yourself, the sooner you can start to enjoy your desires. You're not getting any younger you know, and neither is all that chicken....
