Are you germinating the seed in the box with the cfl on ?

no the seed already was germinated. I planted about 1-2 inches deep and hasnt popped through soil just yet but it's only been a day. only thing I need clarified really is will just one 26w cfl do the job for up to 4-6 weeks ? I only need this to grow that long to take clones from and then get the other seeds popped and have the whole crop starting. I have a few 13w cfl wired up but i think i should stick with one so i don't burn the mother.. once i take plenty of clones and pop the rest I will have the grow box filled with about 15-20 that I will pre-veg for about 3-4 weeks under 3 26w cfl before going outside

You should be fine to grow 1 plant for 4-6 weeks with the 1 cfl. I think each plant needs at least 100 watts or so and the equivalent from cfl is approx that. I'm really not up on the indoor stuff to much, I did some grows years ago and I think the lumens are the most important. I do have some 26w cfl burning here and by the way they look you should be able to grow big enough to get your clones. I don't know if youll get that many. Perhaps one of the indoor gurus will pop in and answer you. I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. So what will your lighting schedule be if you go with the 1 cfl ?

18 to 6 of course bout how many clones u think ill be able to pull off in say.. a 6 week mother

i planted my germinated seed about an inch in soil half promix half happy frog root down and its been 4 days now and it hasn't popped through the soil ???? why ?? i've been keeping it on 18 to 6 lighting and watered it with a spray bottle once the 1st day to moist the soil, a little spray the 2nd and once the third night and now im just letting it go to see if it will sprout. I don't get it also its been around 75-80f and 35-50% humidity

I pushed away some of the soil very gently with a knife and I could see that the seed seemed to still be facing down and hasn't even broke apart yet and I placed the germinated seed in there the night of 2/11/13.. I re covered it with about a cm of soil and put the light back on it :/

maybe you hurt the taproot when you were putting it in the soil or something ?

i have had many germinated seeds never come out of the soil

frustrating but maybe there is still hope for u

Well it's water under the bridge but I see two possibilities:

1) Like post 48 said you might have damaged the root radical. That's why I never germinate seed in anything except rooting medium. The sprouted seed is at it's most delicate and vulnerable point in life with microscopic root hairs you can easily slough off. I've started from seed for decades and always done it germinating directly into potting mix with probably 98% germination in 2-3 days.

2) 1-2" deep is way too deep in my opinion. Especially 2". 1/4" is what I shoot for and just mist the soil surface a couple times/day. Until any seed breaks the surface and starts to photosynthesize it is relying on the food (starch) stored in each of the 2 cotyledons or "seed leaves". If it is so deep that it runs out of energy before breaking the surface you got problems.

Reducing the depth to 1 cm was the best thing to do, maybe they'll pop on up. Hope the do.

i got pissed off so i took it out of the soil and it didn't make any progress what so ever from what it looked like when i finished germinating 6 days ago.. besides the root turned yellowish and the seed kind of faded in color so i put it back in a damp paper towel for the hell of it to see what will happen.. grr

yo pc , this is the germ mehod i use. this is from T Hill. I'm almost at 100 percent with this .
I plant seed directly in soil

A lot of this has to do with me not being able to imagine dealing/transferring large numbers of wet/sprouted seed into soil after germination. I also feel it is important to keep Oxygen levels up throughout the process, and that soil is more forgiving in regards to pH buffering etc. Folks can sprout seed in any way they choose, but I'd just like to remind them to give some effort to preparing well for it, as apposed to wetting seed out and stuffing them in a drawer etc.

My tools for sprouting seed are: 1) flats filled with a seed starting mix or a sifted soil mix to remove clods or large chunks of perlite etc. 2) a fine spray water wand 3) chopsticks 4) squirt bottle 5) a previously set-up and monitored thermostat controlled room set to 82-85F.

first I fill trays with soil and take my time wetting them out, usually 3 times over lightly with a fine wand works (gardena soft spray watering wand is a good one for this). I take my time, and try not to screw up the tilth of the soil- I want Oxygen levels up. Then with a chopstick (or similar) I make my holes, very shallow, quarter inch (half cm) max. drop seed in, pinch closed, then once more over lightly with the squirt bottle (so as not to float seeds back out) "marrying" moist soil to the seed. Then off to the previously prepared room.

Probably, the most important part of the equation is that previously prepared room. In my experience, maximum germination ratios are reached at or around 85F (-30c). Once that seed is moist, the clock is ticking, and the longer we take to get them up after that, the lower the germination ratio. Also, don't give up. Many times I have emptied flats after I thought I had all that was coming up, up, only to experience a new flush of germination (suspiciously, always right around the full moon) a week or two later. -Tom

yo PC no need for a light cycle untill the seed pops. This can be done in darkness if need be . Also is the happy frog a nute ? If so u shouldn't give a seedling anything but h20. This could be a problem. How exactly did you germinate the seed ?

until 4/20 which will give me around 8 weeks then take as many clones as I can get. after that I
will start popping the rest of my Nirvana Ice, Og Kush and Blue Dream in this box. hoping to get
at leaassstt 10 clones off this 8 week mother??

Did you wear disposable (clean) gloves when handling the seed? Make sure you always do. Wash hands in advance, just in case. Grab a double-layered piece of good paper towel and put the seeds on it (with gloves on firsthand). There can be absolutely NO human bacteria getting in the way. Make sure no soil, dust or hair is touching the seeds as you are doing this. Now, as the seeds are lying on the paper towel, evenly spaced out (about 2-3 cm apart), spray the seeds (and the paper towel) with clean distilled water. Just use one of those cheap dollar-store sprayers (make sure you DO NOT use those sprayers for any other purpose). You can even add a drop of Rhizotonic to the spray bottle (prepare this beforehand). Make sure that the paper towel is just wet, not soaking dripping on the floor. Just wet. Fold the paper towel so that the seeds are covered by the wet paper towel on both sides. Insert it gently in a clean ziploc bag. Try to have a little air pocket inside. Close the ziploc bag, put it in a completely dark place. Check 24 hours later. Some seeds make need 48-72 hours to germinate, no more than a week. I have around 80-90% germination rate at the worst. When taking the paper out of the ziploc, make sure not to disturb the seeding in ANY way. Ir the root has grown through the paper towel then just cut out the paper towel piece with the seed in it and plant it like that. Its very sensitive.

yes sir, did all of that. can anyone give me a rough estimate on how many clones I would be able to take off of a 6-7 week old mother if I LST and FIM a lot for the most nodes possible to form ?
Cuz Im gonna need to know how many other seeds im going to need to pop before taking the cuttings for them all to go outside close to the same time

here I am at around 2 weeks and as u can see the two bottom leaves are starting
to yellow and the rest are drooping. Nitrogen or pH deficiency?


just a little info about the environment:

fox farm happy frog soil medium mixed with a little pro-mix
it's been going 24/0 1 26w cfl a room temp of 75f.
no nutes have been added yet. But I have maxicrop liquid seaweed 0 0 1 and earthworm castings 1 0 0
put a tiny bit of dolomite lime spreaded ontop of soil.
water has been as it's needed.. when the soil feels dry about an inch down.

I've been watering with tap water that I let sit out for awhile but obviously that pH is too high
so I went out and got this which is 5% Acidity


How much of ^^^ should I add to a 32fl oz spray bottle for 6.3-6.8 pH ?????

I went and got some pH testing strips from home depot and their ass bra
