No, you can do much better by just helping a neighbor kid with his grades. I always wonder why in this day and age, anyone would suggest new tax? And it is always, if you could have this, would you pay more?
2 things. There is no end to pay more, but a serious end to the money to pay more.
And we never get what was promised. Even if it is voted on to have free college, you will see it's not free. It is now become the most restricted govt program, like heath care will be. Free. Free to study only what the govt wants with their social tinkering agenda.
So, it would be a nightmare like everything touched by govt and it would not be what was promised at all.

College/Uni is not free, it's multiple thousands of dollars/year for the majority of the students. Are you talking about students who earn scholarships that cover the costs or join an ROTC program or something?

Total thread fail. If you pay more in taxes, then it's not FREE. Government isn't there to give you free shit. A government should be as least intrusive as possible. Its only function should be to protect an INDIVIDUAL'S liberties from being taken away. Once government starts making transfer payments using the hard work others have done, said government is a robber.

If it was free all they would do is party and waste everybodys time and money..I went to a trade school along time ago and paid 11k for one years tuition, and the people that got free tuition were the worst students thats what I seen and thats what happened.....In my opinion it will not work...real bad idea....

Absolutely not. At the point we are at there is too many people with degrees. You need a phd to stand out anymore. We forgot as a country that labor jobs are as necessary as the rest. In fact, we ruined our own economy with that being one of the reasons. So we hire illegals to do labor for cheap because every high school only shows children that they "need" to go to college.

I don't see how a higher level of education is a negative thing.
The taxpayer investment in education repays itself up to 10 fold if you consider future revenue takings from higher paying jobs into account.
Free education for all is a good thing...even if you want to be selfish about it, just think, they'll be paying for your ass when you're too old to work yourself.

The graduation rate for a 4-year public school is 29% in four years. It more than doubles in 8 years to 58% this is according to data from ERIC. I am afraid the American tax payer would consider putting a kid through school for 8 years for a four year degree to be an untenable burden. To ameliorate this concern we could say first 2-4 years free depending on degree plan and/or pay for re-taking and any classes needed after four years. It also raises questions of is grad school free? If so, does it become more or less selective? Etc.

Personally, I would rather see trade schools than colleges. Not everybody is cut out to be a college grad, just like not everybody is cut out to be a tradesman. Right now, America basically does nothing to train people in skilled trades.
