You just look kinda' suspect leaving a store with everything you need to grow plants indoors...I mean, yea, some people garden indoors, but I'm 20 years old...Noone is going to believe I'm growing fucking tomatoes in my basement, lmao.Only 1-2 ounces per plant, you say? I must've read wrong...Looking again, it says 400 grams per square meter, so yea, that obviously isn't one plant...Kinda' deceiving numbers there. A square meter would be like 6 plants, lol. I knew there was no way a plant would support the weight of a pound of bud on it.
Still thinking of growing 6-8 plants...I'm just wondering how much electricity will go up because of that. I saw one guy here who wrote a guide (Videoman40, or something?) and said his electricity bill went up $400-$500 dollars per month, but he had...I dunno'...A couple dozen plants, by the looks of it. It wouldn't make sense to me if a couple lights running on average about 15 hours a day would up my bill by even half that...If I leave my TV on alllllll day everyday for a month, the bill goes up $45 (don't ask...went on vacation and left it on, d'oh!) so I can't imagine a couple lights making it go up much more than that. If it does...Damn, I'll be spending more money than I make.
Oh well, still pretty excited. Just questions like that are the only thing stopping me. Getting my electricity bill back and having my heart stop wouldn't be cool.

8 plants, well if i were you id go with 400 mh veg and 600 or 1k hps for flower. word of the wise just be careful man, i used to do the same thing, thought it would help bring in some extra cash, and it did. but after a while it got way outta hand, people i didnt know started calling me up, showin up at my place, to many knew what i was doin, things got really sketch. long story short had to shut the garden down. like i said walk softly and leave no trace

Mainly, I'll keep the fact that I'm growing the stuff between me and my close friends who plan to grow it too. Also, be aware of the smell. If a marijuana plant sits in one place for too long, the place will start to smell like weed, even if it's not being burned. So keep your container mainly sealed, if possible, because if a canine unit smells drugs in your house, that's a warrant for search right there. Most of all, just be fuckin careful cuz posession of weed is a felony in most states.
Yea, I know all too well how that story goes. My friend used to sell weed and coke and eventually he got so over-ran with morons calling him that you could never have a phone conversation with him without him switching lines because someone wanted drugs. Going over to hang out with him was worse because it consisted almost entirely of running around giving people their drugs...It sucked.
Basically, I'll just be selling to some friends, who I won't tell I'm growing it, because people have big mouths. Marijuana is decriminalized in my state, but I'm pretty sure getting caught growing several plants would get you in deep shit. Far as I know of "decriminalized" means nothing more than "If you have 2 ounces or less, we don't care...We're more concerned with the meth epidemic...But if you have more than that, we're kicking your ass!"
At this point, I'm more interested in growing than making money off it...But fi you're going to grow something, it might as well be marijuana to off-set electricity costs, right?

I would echo newbie's bold red point: never, ever tell anyone you grow. not your family, your best friends, even other growers. think about it: is there a reason this person MUST know about it? if not, never let it slip. as far as anyone knows, you just have a good connection and have a bit on-hand all the time. no matter how proud you are of your growroom, your plants, and your skills, keep it to yourself.

Tell no-one! 8 plants should be fun, assuming that you tell no-one. Using a 600 watt light should be fine, assuming that you tell no-one.
My 400 watt light costs me about $17.00 a month to operate, about the same as a computer. You need to keep it under control, and tell no-one.

Hey everyone. I'm new here and I've been getting interested in growing. I don't smoke marijuana at all, but all my friends and my uncle do, and they're ALWAYS asking if I know anyone who has any pot, so I figured, hey...Why not grow and be able to say "Yep...I do!" right? Right.
This is my main concern, though...Getting busted. Not by a family member or a friend, but by the DEA or the cops or what have you. I won't lie to you...I wouldn't last a day in prison. I'm not worried that I'd be stupid enough to make it OBVIOUS that I was growing Marijuana (by letting everyone know about it, etc), but I was wondering if there is anything I should know about that cops use to bust people.
I'm aware that stealing electricity or something would be a choice leading you to get busted, and I wouldn't do that anyways, but is there anything else? I keep seeing pictures on the 'net of grow rooms that got busted and I can't help but wonder...How did they get busted? What did they do wrong? Was it just that they got caught selling and their house was raided? Or was it something else?
I guess my friend is Canada made me paranoid the most...He said the RCMP will raid your house if your electricity bill jumps up a lot for no apparent reason, suspecting you of growing Marijuana. I highly doubt that would happen, but I need some reassurance...Afterall, it's not to be taken lightly...Getting busted would suck.
I was thinking about growing about 8 plants...How many lights would I need? Two HPS and 2 Fluorescents, I'd wager? And if so, does anyone know how much that would bump my bill up? I'm not worried about money, I'm just worried about...Like I said...Someone at the electric company getting suspicious. I'm sure it's all automated and they don't manually check it, but I'd just like someone to tell me "You're being paranoid. Are you sure you don't smoke pot?"
Anywhoos, just thought this would be a nice little discussion. I'm really looking forward to growing...It seems like it'll be really fun.

About the electricity bill. My bill only went up like $10-15 and thats with a 400 w MH for 18 hrs a day. I could be wrong but i think Ive read in a couple books that flourescents use more electricity that MH or HPS. Is that true? I would think CFLs would be good on electricity.
