If you already had a recommendation from your PCP why did you need to visit the clinic to have your application signed?I personally had a lot of my medical information and records on me plus my primary care wrote me a referral. The only thing I showed the doctor was the referral letter, but I did offer to show her all my records. No one else in there had any documents or folders with them so I think they are a little more strict with RI patients from what I heard. The doctor did question me fairly thoroughly and examined me briefly.
The MMJ act does not really protect anyone from anything in my opionion. I would agree that your PCP be very very cautious. The DOH trends who writes and how many and look for trends. If your PCP wrote you a recommendation you are lucky. Many PCP's in the state of RI are being scrutinized for all of their prescribing including MMJ. MMJ is a schedule I drug which is not authorized to RX unless it's research project--however a certification is NOT a prescription but that is the loophole the state can used to stop the certifications by PA's and Np's.they can't. it says so right in the medical marijuana act. unless he was going out recommendations to people who didn't need one.
His pcp is probably not retarded, and just handing out certification to anyone who comes in off the street. A doctor who has signed off on patients is not going to be arrested unless he/she broke the law. breaking the law is one thing. he's just stating that HIS PCP does not want the drama and ridicule that may come with signing off for his patients. And if he signed one or 2 it would not give any rights to the police to charge him with a crime. Patients play doctors all the time. YOU CANNOT TELL THAT EVERYONE IS FAKING. I personally know a "skitzo" who has never head voices in his life. has no mental defect. no physical injuries. he just felt like not working the rest of his life and told a doctor when he was 15 that he hears voices. Now can they go arrest the doctor on conspiracy to commit fraud agains the social security administration? no. you see people like you with opinions of no importance cause PCP's like him to not deal with patients in the MMJ world.
It's their job to help you but not if they don't want to or they're afraid and they're not obligated to give you certification anymore than they'd be obligated to give you narcotics or sleeping pills. It's a choice and a lot of docs aren't open to it because of fear of reprisal even if they agree with the philosophy of it.What happened to asking your primary care physician? Isn't it their job to help you? They are obligated to help you if a requested therapy (ie M.Marijuana) will do more good than harm. And it's cheaper too...
B and B is very unprofessional! I had tried them first and had all my medical records faxed over there and was told I would be contacted in a couple days when the doc looked them over. I would hear back either way she told me.. That was 3 weeks ago!!! I called and left messages and emailed. Finally after a week she emailed me and said the doctor has been out fir personal reasons but we will get back to you when he returns. That was 2 weeks ago and I never heard back.. They are a waste of time and unprofessional. I'm glad I heard about canna! You can go to any consulting place without a recommendation from your PCP IF you have your medical records. People don't always feel comfortable telling their PCP they want a card because of the judgement and the worry of asking. The B and B place will review your medical records for your certifying condition. YOu can go independently of what your PCP says with supporting documentation.
