the "deficit" fell as aa result of the BUSH budget entering it's final phase, the part where all the shit gets paid for through reduced expenditures. now that obama has a budget of his own for the first time in 5 years he can get back to spending the way he intends, so he can bankrupt the country like a champ.

also, "unemployment" only includes those who have NO job, are ACTIVELY looking for work AND are receiving unemployment payments.

it does not include those who:

have exhausted their unemployment benefits
have given up finding a job
have gone back to school
have gone on disability because there are no jobs for them
are working a shit job and augementing their income by selling produce from their garden and doing odd jobs around town
have not yet had a job
sell weed
are on welfare or public assistance


the "unemployment" statistic has nothing to do with employment, it only examines how many people are on the benefit roles for the unemployment insurance payout.

Given the title you chose for this thread, your assertion seems to be that this deficit information indicates the economy is getting better. If the deficit improvement is mostly a function of higher tax rates and the expiration of the payroll tax cut, it doesn't suggest the economy is getting better.

Believe me, since I'm currently looking for a job, I really do wish the economy would get better. It has nothing to do with partisanship.

contrast that with the current president, who is overseeing annual deficits that become smaller and smaller at a faster and faster rate.

add to this the fact that this is occurring during rough economic times, rather than good economic times, and the feat is even more impressive.

fact is that in recent history, the republicans blow up deficits and democrats get them back in line. happens over and over again, without fail.

The Dow closed at record highs just the other day, so the business community apparently likes what is going on under Obama, although I'm not sure that is a good thing. As far as unemployment is concerned, we still are way better off than the EU, or mostly anywhere else in this world for that matter. One of the reasons for unemployment worldwide is automation, as it is now in every facet of society and has reduced the need for humans in areas that used to employ a lot of people. That is never going to change now, nor will the overseas production of the cheap shit that we buy a ton of every day. In other words, we are screwed. As far as unemployment is concerned, I think that this is the new norm, and I'll bet you that even a Republican couldn't even fix it.
