First time grower respectfully in need of assistance

Glad you are on the same boat as I am! Maybe we all can learn something together?

Also, Cloud, the seeds I have are random seeds collected, mostly from other growers. These were collected by someone else and given to me to experiment with so I have no idea if they are feminized or what but that's why I threw 3 of those bad bitches in there so I have a ratio of success.
randomly collected eh, no matter! sure when the time comes we'll identify the males from the females!

I am extremely new to this myself, but my friend and I just threw 4 of my seeds into regular soil he uses to grow his vegetables, and we had two sprout and are growing strong just like that. However, they do show signs of stress / lack of nutrients / maybe PH problems from leaf discoloration, I am not sure which exactly, but I am sure you can figure that out if you chose to go that route yourself.
when they are so young in plant soil and showing odd signs. its probably nute burn from the soil itself. i doubt it's a lack of nutrients.

the method i went with was to plant the seed about a quarter inch deep, very very shallow, in a peat pot with your supersoil and then cover with a lil bit of soil. and hang a light over it by about 4 -6 inches. that way the bean will sprout in a day or 2 and after a week or so, due to the magic of the peat pot, the roots will actually grow through the peat pot. to which you can plant directly into your bigger pot without having to remove anything! it's stress free repotting for the little seedling.
It's pretty much the same concept of what I was going for but I think I like your method a bit better than the one I was told. Should I put the peat pot inside of a cup or something?

By the way, I started adding notes to my initial thread post, in case anyone has additions.

Nope no need. for the little bit of water runoff, because the water seeps through the peat pot and makes them soft (don't worry when it's time to water them again the peat pots re harden) then i suggest just placing them on a plate. just to keep the area clean

Royal Cheese Auto Just popped.jpg

These are my Royal Cheese Auto about 12 hours after they popped the soil. using the method i described albeit with styrofoam to pro them toward the lamp that wouldn't lean down any further. i'e had zero problems with them too. they now are getting quite bushy in 10 litre pots!

As you can see on my cheese no.3 (my smallest) taken 2 weeks ago you can see the remnents of the peat pot. all disintegrated under the soil no doubt and torn apart by the roots!

Thanks man! So, how often do they need watering? And I also heard of a method on efficiently watering plants. I have heard that it can be very beneficial if you place the potted plant inside of a bigger pot. Fill the bigger pot with water and the potted weed absobs the water from below the pot preventing dry areas. Is that even worth it?

i haven't read or heard about that.. but that looks like it could lead to root rot if done improperly.. but then again i wouldn't know. watering once every three days is is good. for seedlings once every 2 days, you'll want the soil to dry out a good bit before watering to encourage the roots to grow outwards instead of just down. when in a bigger pot, the rule of thumb is stick your finger 4 inches into the soil. if dry then it's time to water. don't just judge it on the surface soil.

is this a method of hydro...? i've yet to study such methods until my first natural grow is completed. starting out with the basics is my motto and build from there..

Do you just eyeball it or do you put in a certain amount of water?

I'm not sure but the method seems to be legit:

Pot inside of pot. Plant pot has hole on the bottom which is where it can absorb the water and distribute evenly. I also heard that you can trim the top and maneuver the sprouting branches through chicken wire and create a super crop by just supplying light to the tops at one end and just watering the rooted portion at the other end. If it's confusing then I can draw it out. Apparently some have developed way to keep a crop growing buds by spawning tops throughout the chicken wire.

Don't quote me as this is a project I heard about yesterday but from what I know, he is pretty successful in this methodology.

the chicken wire thing is a ScroG! which is my next grow plan. there are guides here for methods! someone else will have to help you on the pot of water. i just play it by sight and had no real watering issues.

No, that's fine. Most people probably eyeball the watering process. I don't think that will be too much of an issue.

So today I need a desk lamp and a CFL bulb along with the planted seedling in supersoil within a peat pot? I will stick my setup in a temporary white box and hover the lamp 4 inches away until I get my real set up in the mail.

I just want to know if that the only things I need to get today. Lamp, bulb, peat pot and supersoil?

Good book for beginners is Jorge Cevantes " The Complete Guide to Growing Medical Marijuana Indoors or Outside." It's on Amazon also and it is excellent. Buy it.
I recommend dj shorts book as well as mandalas free onling guige. but jc has some good liturature

Good work cloudy. solid advice. ive been doing this for years and i use the finger test. its the.gold standard.

and the "hydro" system you guys are talking about is a primitive wich system. they work, but i would go with dwc/bubbles, ebb and flow, or i would build a aeroponic.system.

but ive been happy with dirt for like 10 years. im going to build a bubble cloner soon tho.

i have always sown seeds, i suck at cloning, or so i thought. last time i tried cloning my root hormone was old. im going to try a bubbler and see if i can make it work

Now, when is a good time to transfer these seeds? Do they ALL have to be CRACKED open fully or can I put them in soil if they look like they do in my pic?

Perfectly fine to drop her in soil now. You don't want her root hairs to grow into the paper towel.

Make sure you don't bury her too deep.
