Going to buy a lamp/light need help FOR INDOOR GROWING

I recently germinated some skunk seeds and ata tundra seeds, and am going to plant them soon in potting soil. I already have about 10 baby weed plants with about 6 leaves on them each. And i want to put them inside in my friends house, its ok with his parents. So we need a LAMP and i have no idea which one to get and how to use it etc. So if anyone could help that would be great. Right now the plants are in seperate 8 inch pots, and 4 of the plants are in a window box that is about 2 ft long
PLEASE HELP!!

yeah, it depends on your budget......... if it doesn't matter, and the rents don't care (BTW, shouldn't be growing with rents, it's that many more people that know, but whatever), then go with a 1000W HPS, doesn't get any better than that. setup is easy, plug and go. get a package that comes with a ballast and a hood, keeps it simple.

I'd like to tag onto this-- since i am also shopping for a light...

I've been reading the FAQs...

And it seems you have three variables... 1) the light 2) the bulb and 3)the ballast... And i have to admit its a little confusing to know which combination is going to be best.

I am getting a 1000W- But should I get

a) HPS all the way and use a MH conversion bulb to veg?
b) MH all the way and use a HPS conversion bulb to bud?
c) conversion ballast?! and seperate MH and HPS bulbs ... and basic hood i guess fits with this?


And finally- Ebay at half price? or local grow shop?

Could someone chime in whose had some experience with these?
I would love to hear from some of you that have used any of these three..
I'd prefer to only make this purchase ONCE. :D

ok my budget is like $125.00 i just wanna grow some fire ass weed, ya nkow lol i have about 20 plants all together after i germinate my next batch of seeds ! I just need to know what to get exactly! thanks soo much guyus !!

For 20 plants you'll need a couple of 600 watters or even 2 1000 watters(if you have 20 females). If you keep your plants pretty short before flowering you could get by with a couple of 400 watters after you've pulled the males.

Yeah, sounds like too many plants for that budget. I have a 250W HPS with the ballast enclosed. It's heavy, but nice and simple with one cord and all self-contained. Got it on eBay for $70, but I got lucky retail is like 99-125 bucks. You're looking at like 4-6 square feet with 250W, so pick your best 5 or 6 plants and go!!

If you try to raise a 250W light higher to get more grow area, your plants will end up stretching out. You can put the 250 like 6-8 inches from the plant tops and it's not too hot.

Disregard what everyone's telling you, cause you need to spend as little on a light as possible, because not only are you going to have to buy that, but also a oscillating fan, a carbon scrubber, and some sort of ventilation (not cheap).

yea disregard what we all are saying cause our information is complete crap....

He said his lamp budget is $125. oscilating fans are cheap. I have 2 desk fans ($5 each 2-speeds) and a stand up fan ($20 3 speeds.) a carbon scrubber DIY for less than $20.

ventilation. open the windows and point a fan facing out the window.


you're not helpful by telling someone to disregard everyone in the posts information. we are all giving him CORRECT information!! log off now plz.

Yeah, totaly disregard what I said, I forgot to mention that I had to spend $15 on a desk fan for ventilation. My bad-that might put you over budget.

You don't need expensive ventilation with a 250W light!! Amount of wattage per square foot is the only real way to determine how much you will yield if you disregard all other factors. It is the FIRST place you should spend most of your investment IMHO.

desk fans are cheaper than that. walmart is the best place for em the clip fans are $5. standing desk fans are like $10.

but honestly... fans are easy to come by. a lot of people already have fans in their homes.

if not... craigslist. you can probably acquire fans there for a couple bucks a pop. if not free.

Yep, I totally agree superhigh. The point is that you don't need an expensive elaborate cooling system with a 250W or even a 400W light in most cases. Once you go 600W or above, then you are in need of some serious ventilation.

Check out the top of my lady-250W HPS and a small fan for ventilation in a standard size closet.

htg supply currently has a 400 watt hps with remote ballast on sale for 120.00. not enouch light for what your doing but does meet budget.

I grew 8 under a 400w MH, but 1 was stunted so its an outdoor plant now. anyways, they are growin like champs. 2 were male so now im down to 5 under a 400w mh!

okay so if i got a 400 hps light, how many plants could i grow with that>???? AND THANKS GUYS SOOOO MUCH FOR OUR INPUT!!! Right now i have like 10 plants and almost all of em are like 8 inches tall, i want to have about 20 all together, and i have a feeling about 10 are gunna be female! I JSUT WANNA GROW SOME FIRE WEED WITH NO SEEDS!! Ya know lol

I totally get you spikey. I'm in the same situation, don't want to grow massive quantity, just excellent personal smoke that I don't have to pay for!:blsmoke:

The amount of plants you can do will depend on the size of the pots they are in. You have to find a happy medium, small pots=more plants=smaller plants, Large pots=less plants=bigger plants. Just make sure you don't try to stretch it out and raise the light higher to fit in more plants and sacrifice bud density. You could probably do 10 plants fine under a 400W which should give you about 8 square feet or so of space. If you could set up a space 3' X 3' and use square pots then you could absolutely do 9. What a fine tic-tac-toe board that would make:mrgreen:

OHH MAN THATS FUCKING NUTS!! Lol ill def do that ! i'll figure something out, but i just talked to my friend and he said that i can get a lamp or light from walmart or kmart. For like 20 or 30 bucks, is this true? Because that would save me sooo much $$!! so let me know whats up and i checed ebay and i could get a lamp for like 80 bucks on theere, like a 400 watt HPS lamp
