..and immediately thought "who cares, there's millions of them anyway.."
...millions.
...millions.
Imo, there's a huge difference between conscious and non-conscious life; the closer living things are to consciousness, the less likely I am to kill it if it interferes with my life. We kill billions of bacteria and viruses every time we wash our hands and brush our teeth, and I'm not sure even buddhists regret this. Killing vermin like insects and rodents doesn't phase me, any living thing I find in my home I didn't invite in is getting whacked with extreme prejudice. When my kid was younger, he used to save bugs and bring them outside, as he was influenced by his mom's all-life-is-precious crap. I remember him begging me not to kill a little yellowish spider that I found at my place, so I didn't. This fucking thing was pregnant and soon there were hundreds of these fuckers everywhere! They were amazing stupid, too; I found them floating in the toilet and sink, and they'd routinely drop right in front of your face on a strand of web as if to say, 'what's up?' One apparently bit my son on the face while he was sleeping, and he got over his shit and started smushing them left and right. Not all life is precious, it doesn't phase me to indiscriminately kill evolved life all the way up to about cats (including cheating whores and dudes that look at me funny)

I loves me some rabbits. Not cause theyre cute but cause they taste good. Venisons are right tastey too. Charcoal does wonderful things for all meats. That includes fishes too.I'm essentially a Nihilist, the 'all life is valuable' crap never flew with me. My dad always taught me never to let things suffer, and don't kill something unless you have to, or you want to eat it. I never extended that to non-conscious life.
I'm also a hunter. I don't hunt for sport though, only to eat. Birds, Rabbits, deer.... I eat it.
...great question. My current understanding of this is that all things are conscious - at their level. I think it's why us humans seem so important. We can't 'see' anything other than a physical form. Consciousness is void, but we do not think that it exists - at its level.Does a fly understand what it means to be alive, or does it simply live?
What is your understanding based on? Surely not current neurophysiology. If it is just something you came up with on your own, I am wondering why you claim it's an 'understanding.'...great question. ...who else might be doing the understanding but me? It is how I understand the world, atm. Should I be ashamed, or astonished? What is your understanding based on? Surely not current neurophysiology. I do this too. I take spiders outside all the time.I consider myself a bug savior, i save bugs all the time by carefully removing them from my house and putting them outside. So i saves them! ...from being killed by my girlfriend. Even though i am probably putting them into more danger, it makes me feel like im saving lives lol!
...I dug. What does current neurophysiology say is that case? What is your understanding based on? Surely not current neurophysiology. If it is just something you came up with on your own, I am wondering why you claim it's an 'understanding.'
Dude, Im not sure that I even understand what it means to be alive. lolI thought this video was kind of interesting, I suppose it applies somewhat. I don't feel bad when I kill a fly, at the same time I also don't go out of my way to kill as many as possible or even kill them if they're not bothering me.
Does a fly understand what it means to be alive, or does it simply live? To some the second part is the important part, I think the first part carries more weight.

whats the answer then? What is your understanding based on? Surely not current neurophysiology. If it is just something you came up with on your own, I am wondering why you claim it's an 'understanding.'
