Terrible weekend!

On Saturday morning I had the police banging on my door, when I opened it their were eight of them and four were carrying guns! now this is the Uk and we rarely see armed policeman especially knocking on your door so early in the morning. They asked for my son and handed me a search warrant to search his room, my son was in bed so I went to get him, immediately asking him what he had done he looked as confused as I was. They then read him his rights and told him they were arresting him for inciting racial hatred, apparently he had argued with a muslim girl on facebook regarding a mosque that they intend to open just up the road from where we live. Because of what happened in London with the soldier being attacked they had been on alert for racial incidents and the muslim girl had reported my son for being racist. They told me they were sorry and that everyone was angry but they had to act on any reports of racist activity, when I asked why the guns they said it was what they had been told to do in such circumstances, when I asked what they were looking for in his room they said any weapons or evidence he was going to commit a racist crime they found a baton that he had bought back from a holiday in Cyprus and confiscated that and they took his phone and Ipad. They handcuffed him and took him away, the whole street was out as armed policemen are rare unless you are a danger to the public. The Ipad they took had lots of photo's on it including my plants so as you can imagine the next few hours that followed I was expecting another visit from them, they are almost done and to big to move so I sat and waited. After what seemed like an eternity they bought my son back the policemen again apologised to me and said they had cautioned my son and told me to have a talk with him with regard to what he writes on facebook. He had got the Ipad in his hand and the whole time he was talking I just wanted to snatch it off him. However he gave it back to my son and wished us a good day, apparently they had not looked at it as my son had admitted the racist comments and they didn't need it as proof. When they left I promptly deleted all the pics and gave my son a good telling off for being stupid and bringing them here in the first place, so all in all I had a shit and worrying weekend.

that whole story is obscene. having police come to your door because he offended someone online is fucking heinous. i don't care what he said. unless he made threats that shit is disgusting and horrifying. that's some north korea shit. (not really but it's vile just the same).

and people wonder why us 'muricans make such a fuss about the first amendment and tolerate such ridiculous views/speech. the alternative is described in the first post.

Man I feel for you, lucky they diddent look on the iPad or come in your house.
but you gotta expect that,is there not like 1 CCTV cameras per 14 people in London?
if they watch you on your way to/at work, you know their watching your Internet as well.

eitherway tell your son to watch what he says online and try to avoid this in the future

A lot of bigoted and racist opinions being spouted online recently. Do you not feel you should be speaking to your son about this or does he share your view point?

What did he say? It must have been henious for someone to report him & then for the police to follow it up.

He was totally out of order and I cannot repeat what he said, his friends all started making comments and he jumped on the band wagon and said his piece. On the Friday night his dad and I both told him to be careful what he wrote but by that time it was to late. Several of his friends have also been arrested they are just boys, and have school pals that joined the army and when the incident happened in Woolwich as well as the mosque they are wanting to open by us things just got out of hand. I have my opinion on this but I choose not to splash it all over facebook and he knows this he's just got to mature a bit to realise it.

:peace:More and more we find out just how closely we are being monitored.....even across the big pond...kids today have something that people of my generation didnt have.. the ability to be heard and seen by thousands of people in the blink of an eye ( or in this case the clicking of the send button) with that power also comes a certain amount of responsibility. In this time of political correctness very little can be said or expressed without offending someone and I think it's crying shame but it's the time we live in...........!
positive karma coming your way Granny Weed..........PEACE!

Wow granny that would have sent me looking for my nitro pills. Did the Muslim girl report the other boys or just your son? That really sucks and the neighbors all looking. I hope your OK now and that they don't bother ya any more.

The muslim girl reported lots of the comments made on facebook the stupid thing is she made some pretty racist comments herself, my son and a few of his friends were arrested. The police always go over the top here he's a 23yr old young man they didn't need the guns or to cuff him he's not a fighter never has been. I went out to the neighbours after the police had gone and told them what had happened I think they thought He'd murdered someone. I was terrified in case they could smell the weed they were standing directly under the attic door, and the photo's on the Ipad would have been the icing on the cake. I'm okay now and hopefully they won't come back panic over thanks for your concern ;-)

I feel for you guys across the pond. This shit is ridiculous. A Muslim reported her for being offended by the womans flag. In the UK no less!

The cops probably held their hand as they defaced this memorial as well. They'll sit and watch without batting an eye as a Muslim burns the Union Jack but you can't even carry your own country's flag.

Mature in to what? A smarter, more secretive bigot who doesnt post his opinions on facebook.

What he said must have been awful for things to escalate the way they did. I'm suprised the press havent got a hold of it. The Sun lap this shit up.

I got to break it to you mate. Hating somebody based on their religion is not racism.

I'd just like to say I'm sorry this happened. I understand how painful this type of thing can be. But I wanted to speak about the iPad and Phone. If the iPad and Cellphone were out of your sight you can be almost certain they downloaded them. So if you have anything you need to get rid of I'd be doing it for my own peace of mind.
