Every other citizen? Single people don't get any benefits from being married either. Perhaps its because the government is denying single people the right to equal civil rights?
Please explain how a single person could get married? I thought we were talking about the marital benefits that some are denied solely based on what they do with their genitals.

So joint filing; not receiving tax benefits from 401 swaps afforded to legally married couples; and an income tax break on your spouse's medical coverage don't have an effect on your income taxes?
If you are going to die, leave everything to your gay lover for all I care, its called a will. KPMarine, I don't really care how Gay you are.

pretty soon you're gonna go full stormfront red on us and tell us that gay people already have marriage equality because they can marry a partner of the opposite sex just like hetero people can.

kinda like how women could always vote if they just glued a penis on themselves, or how black people never had to pay any poll taxes or take any literacy tests as long as they painted themselves white.

modrama "logic".
LOL Black people painted themselves white? When did this happen?

Yeah, that will doesn't offer the same benefits that are afforded to spouses. In fact, it subjects you to the estate taxes and the inability to roll over your significant other's retirement account without harsh tax penalties. In short; it prevents them from enjoying the same benefits your wife would in the event of your passing.

Why would a gay single person?
They wouldn't. Are you even paying attention to the conversation? Last I checked; this was about the fact that a gay couple does not receive the same rights, privileges, and benefits as a straight couple would. Due to the fact that their marriages are not recognized in many states or on a federal level.

So as long as I decide I'm married, it's cool? I'm pretty sure you'd need proof of a union the courts view as legal. I don't think my marriage certificate as a Unitarian minister is enough on it's own.

Also, what's "whiny" about wanting to not have to jump through extra hoops to enjoy the same privileges as every other citizen?
I think you are missing my point. I was differentiating between the "rights" you stated and pointing one out as a clearly defined Constitutional Natural Law right.......which would supercede any of the statutory legal "benefits" you were claiming as rights.....they are not. They are contracted benefits. Is it fair for gays not to be able to contract in this manner from an equal rights perspective?

My opinion is no.

Using the Constitutional right to "not testify" against your spouse would be a foot in the door for any of those legal arguments you are pursuing.....or talking about getting something done about.....I merely pointed out the legal arguments as seeming whiny to me and stated that a Constitutional stance such as the one right you actually mentioned would seem to me to be a better way of doing it than just raging against society and its endless bounty of statutes and corporate law about it.

None of that is my fault, I don't make the rules around here. You should go cry to someone who cares.

BTW the conversation was apparently about how getting married relieves you of paying MASSIVE amounts of tax. It doesn't.

The "marriage penalty" is predicated upon two people with similar incomes. When I worked and was married, my one income covered the household. The marriage bonus was significant. And that is for income taxes. cn

Not the Norm. 80% of all US Households have 2 or more earners.

If you really don't want to pay much income tax, there are much much better ways than by getting married.

So not having to pay taxes on my spouses IRA when I roll it over; being able to write off my spouses medical coverage; filing jointly; claiming the children you help raise due to being able to adopt them; the ability to write off child or spousal care; and the ability to claim a spousal exemption will not save you money on taxes at some time or another?

but you didn't call tokeprep 'whiny', you called his quest for equal protection under the law 'whiny'.

you can tell me that you're not a bigot all you want after that, it doesn't change what you said and the sentiment behind it though.

i am not surprised, either. with rawn pawl supporters, it's almost always just a matter of time until this kind of thing exposes itself.
