Hi Chaz! I haven't been online for a while (busted hip in a bike accident), but I'm just finishing up harvest and manicuring of my first crop, and I'm a bit disappointed to find my buds a bit on the light and fluffy side. I'm hoping this is not a result of the 420s. I've read in places that bud grown under fluorescents tend to be light and fluffy, but since I never heard anyone say this specifically about the IndaGro 420s I thought it wouldn't be a problem.

My ladies are (were) Blue Dream and Sour Diesel. I veged them for about six weeks, then flipped to flower and started aggressively scrog-ing them. Flower actually lasted about twelve weeks because about three weeks in changed the light cycle from twelve-twelve to ten-fourteen, based on the belief that my pfr-pontoons would accelerate the nightly transition of the phytochrome-- I thought I could extend the period of photosynthesis. After about four weeks of the ten-fourteen light cycle it looked to me that the ladies had actually fallen back into veg, so I switched back to twelve-twelve.

Anyway, that's how the grow went, and while I wound up pulling more than a pound out of each tent my buds a pretty fluffy and definitely not Grade-A. Does anyone think the lightness of the bud is a trait of the use of the 420s? Are other folks using these lights seeing this in their bud, or is it more likely the result of my n00b horticulture skills?

Vic,I'm sure Chaz will be back to give you his IndaGro experience but he will probably need more info.How big of a area are you trying to cover and what's the height of the light above the plants. I don't have a IndaGro but have a cabinet with induction and T5 HO and grow some large frosty rock hard buds in it. I also use a seperate 730 nm flower initiator flood lamp and think the 14 hrs might be strain dependent. My last run I was at 14 and thought the plant was a little behind so I dropped back to 13 and the plant took off. I think chaz suggested to me starting at 12 until she starts to flower then raise your time. I also backed down to 12 at the end to make her finish.

Fluffy buds could be because of strain, high heat, high humidity, nutrients, air quality. Plant health, etc.....

no offense vic, but when I cut my gals and keep in mind i cut them early they were all but rock hard. The diesel more than the rest, the widow was a lil on the thinner side but it was more sativa. All the things hyroot said may very well have worked against ya, all about learning how to make it think inside is actually out... not an easy task we take on

First, I'm glad to hear that other folks are growing "rock hard nugs" under flouro, so whatever my issue this go-round was, it's correctable.

I'm set up in two 4x4 tents, with the lamps positioned about 16" above the canopy. I never invested in dehumidifier, but my humidity remained in the low-mid 60s throughout the run, and my temps were always in the mid-70s. My nutes were the Botanicare CNS17 line, supplemented with Botanicare Hydroplex and Liquid Karma. I ran my ppms up to about 1800 by the end of flower.

I'm also thinking either my SCROG method or my drying my have caused the super light fluffy buds. For the SCROG I never topped my plants to make multiple heads before going to SCROG. Instead, I aggressively lollipopped, pulling the top half-dozen or so branches through the grid. Then rather than allowing the branches to grow upwards I continuously wove them through the screen as they grew, so I wound up with this insanely dense canopy, with some branches like three-plus feet long.

For drying, I didn't water the plants for four days before harvest, then hung the branches from the scrog screen in the tent with the mini-fans still on to create strong circulation in the tent. Also, while manicuring the buds I worked by reaching into the tent with the 420s on for lighting. I wonder if this combination of strong air circlation and exposure to the 420 lights during the drying process dried them too quickly.

Hiya Vic! I see most of the replies have been covered I would have hit on. I would add the following:
Your really should invest in a dehumidifier set at 52-53%.
Keep day temps without CO2 @ 72-78 with CO2 @ 80-85 F.
Night temps @ 10 degrees below day temps.
The nutes are good but it looks like you were following the label, PPM @ 1800 is way to high. IMO at this stage you should be around 1250 ppm at the end of flower. Remember these guys are all about selling nutes. This is a case of less is more.
Did you get a flush in within the last week? Again IMO I always flush the last week of flower with RO water. I don't see where you flushed and with PPM that high it's going to be a pop fizzle pop smoke.
It sounds like you dried them out too fast with the fans directly on em and the 420's running. Air movement is good just not directly on them. I dry in complete darkness.

Anyway with all things considered you still ended up with some weight and your learned a few things. Not a bad first run.

My old buddy Bungzie has been refitting his veg rooms to 420-Pontoon combo's and he's going to be running veg-flower in the same rooms. Bung took out 10 of a 1000 watt (10K watts total) metal halide and installed 10 of the Pro 420 Pontoon (4600 watts total) combinations. He promised to keep me updated so I thought I'd share them with the crew. Here we are at week 3 of Veg.

Strains: Cherry Pie, Louis XIII, LSD, Anunnaki, Sno Cap and Black Berry.





Yes I know he's running the Pontoons at veg but Bung insists that the veg will benefit from the 660's. I disagree but he's been growing for 30 years and is pretty set in his ways so I just nod my head alot and go along with him.

Thanks Chaz. I did a few days with a flushing solution, followed by a few days of just plain ph balanced water.

Yeah, I'm anxious to get another run in there and try to correct. Do you have a recommendation on humidifier? I'll focus on getting my humidity into the mid-low 50s. I think I'll also benefit from more early veg topping, so I wind up with more cola buds and a shit-ton of smaller buds along these ridiculously long branches I cultivated in my trestle-like version of SCROG.

Hiya Buck!! It's all your fault bro! You started this bitch. We lost our old buddy Spliff but I hear he's doing real good. Welcome back!

Anyhew I just got back to by GSC garden after 10 days of being out of town. I gotta tell you my help fucked up on the feeding schedule cuz he went by the Botanicare feeding chart. They said @ week 5 to mix to a 1722 PPM. However my help dropped to 1,200 PPM and I've still got some burn. The GSC got it the worst and it is minimal but from here on out I'm dropping down to 1,100. The Blueberry Diesel is hanging on the strongest and is already smelling amazing. Had my help add a dehumidifer while I was gone and the RH is staying under 55%. While I was gone it had climbed into the high 80's. Went through a lot of Serenade during that period. We're good now though and there is very little evidence of PM. I'm staying on it though. Temps have been below 75 so for that I'm thankful. We should be fattening up from here on out. Fingers crossed.



On the outdoor garden I put this greenhouse tent up for just $200 off Amazon. I've been using Roots Organic 707 Blend in 15 gal pots. No PM no bugs very healthy with no nutes and using just tap water. Should see some flowering activity this week and then I'll start running the nutes.

Thanks P! The vents are two zipper panels on the top side of the walls just underneath the opposite wall roof peaks. I gotta tell you there is very good airflow through this little bastard and for $200 I'm pretty impressed. So far the hottest it's gotten in there is low 80's and the plants are loving it.
