Had bowel obstruction surgry 2 1/2 weeks ago. The surgeon messed up. Gimme advice

Had my staples taken out yesterday. Didn't really hurt at all, not like I thought it would. That device they use to take them out if very effective. However, the nurse, who I thought was extreamly competent, missed a staple in my belly button. Thank god I like to mess with shit or I never would have seen it. It was have grown over with skin. It will be interesting to see how they get it out. At least she'll be taking it out. She had very very very steady hands.

Yah I saw where you said you were bad LOL! But if you have crohns or uc or ibs you really need to move away from the opiates..... REALLY and your staple line will look better as you lose the swelling. For men we never do plastic closures it's considered unnecessary as most men don't give a shit.

So next time you have surgery, and if you continue abusing opiates you are going to be facing another worse one & eventual colostomy, I'd really suggest you book a plastic closure and pay for it.

I made some big money doing plastic closures... as a little money making side line LOL!!! gotta love the medical profession....

What exactly are you concerned about? Surely if you were going to dehisce it would have occurred and that one little itty bitty staple is not holding the entire line. My hub LOVED to go to the dentist in the military because the girls would put their breasts on their foreheads while they cleaned their teeth... too funny....

Sorry I don't think I would be whipping out a knife, cutting skin and then trying to take out a staple out of my gut. Some of us just aren't immune to seeing something like that. The very thought makes me feel queasy LOL I have a super weak stomach tho, smells make me so sick and I just can't really look at gross stuff. I can't even watch those hot dog eating contests on tv cause they start to gag and carry on and the next thing ya know I'm retching right along with them haha! It's like sympathy vomiting, I can hear somebody getting sick and barf right along with them.

Let the pro handle it and take it out but I am in agreement, stop abusing your system with the pills before you end up like Elvis, dead on the toilet constipated with an impacted colon.

I always take out my own staples and stiches, sure pisses of the Doc. What if it wasn't healed enough?? Shit doc I've had over 100 stiches in 2 fingers and after going thru those coming out I'll do em myself thank you.

Lmao what's funny about that is it almost happened that way! Got into a fight, tried to slip out my shirt but it got stuck I bent over to try to untangle and bam took one good shot to the back of ribs on right side and spleen ruptures. I thought I broke a rib until I woke in the er with the doc saying mr you have ten mins left to live you need to let us work. Guess I passed out from internal bleeding.

I would NOT advise anyone to remove a major closure line like his. But they did already so it's on their shoulders this was a missed one. How would they know they didn't remove it?

Blunt trauma (spleen)? wire cutters are the wrong tool LOL! The non painful technique is to bend the staple right in the middle..... It then hinges the legs outwards and upwards and slides out as you pull at the same time.

Yea it wasn't the easiest task. I ended up cutting the middle in half and snaking the two sides out. I had no idea the staples were shaped how they were, it took a couple of them to get it to where I wasn't hurting myself.

LOL Annie! I was a licensed cosmetologist for years and even now when I go for a very rare manicure I don't allow them to clip or mess with my cuticles because of all the potential infection.

I am the daughter of a street rod/bike builder so I grew up on motorcycles. Around 12 I wrecked my XR75 hitting the wet pavement chin first and made a deep enough gash in my chin to stick my finger in several inches. I looked in the mirror and had to get sick it was gross. Then cried like a two year old when they came at me with a giant ass needle to deaden it so they could scrub the shit out of it and stitch it up. I clipped those and pulled them out with tweezers when it was healed up and it was no problem. But staples hell to the naw, not gonna take out even one.

Actually I hope and pray I never have a need for staples!!

I second the get well soon. But I also second his going to see the cutie one more time. He must be feeling good if his mind is.. well nevermind!

The secret about any suture line is they are pretty numb. It's all the cutting and electrocautery. So it's just ookie not painful LOL!
