I agree with you entirely. As with most presidents, Obama has found the burden far more annoying than reality--he has deferred to his advisors rather than making substantive policy changes relevant to the federal government.
He doesn't just defer to advisers when he breaks his promises. He is furnished with impetus to do so by his detractors and by his "opponents" in congress. In short, they are in it together, everything is bipartisan, even the partisanship.

When he went on a cannabis crackdown, some people defended him saying it was neocons in the DEA continuing the crackdown despite his promises. This works wonderfully for him, as he gets to be like Nixon, but is beloved like JFK. I call bullshit.

The fact is, the drug war is all his. He owns it, he inherited it and has ramped it up. He indicated that he would not, but when he did anyway, he just said that his promise was not to give carte blanch to a marijuana industry. He needs simply order Holder to reschedule, and this ongoing drama will end. The reason this debate continues, year after year, is because he is doing the opposite, and congress has increased his budget for the cannabis crackdown.

Now, I think he will also break his promise not to give carte blanch to an industry. There are people with ties to the democrat party and to media outlets friendly to the political position of said party who intend precisely a marijuana industry. They want to privatize marijuana and that is why Obama is keeping the crackdown going as long as he can with out losing political capital. This would all seem like a slippery slope, if not for the anti-marijuana group mentioned in the OP.

Privatization is not legalization. The whole point of prohibition was eventual privatization.

What Cannabis crackdown? Oh you mean Busting the Cannabis Cowboys using medical Marijuana as a front?

How many dispensaries before Obama took office? how many now?

This is an old argument, which is my old argument. Prior to a crackdown with an increased DEA budget and prior to his reelection. There is nothing stopping him from calling off his dawgs.

The FACT is that Obama could end cannabis prohibition with his own authority by simply ordering Holder to reschedule. He has done the opposite.

So if he did do as you wish.
How would he be able to go after the rest of his agenda?
he would bew labeled "the drug dealing president' probably would throw the elections in 2014 to the Republicans.

And no he hasnt made prohibition more hard core. He has left it up to the states.
Has the DEA gone after people growing weed for themselves?

And 1000 plants is not the definition of personal use

DO you think the Republicans would make more progress in rolling back the prohibition?

How much power ought the democrat party have in your opinion?

My guess at your answer: "more".
Good Guess
SO my guess is because of one issue you would Rather have Mitt Romney and the Tea Billies in power.

Oh yes i am sure they will speed up rolling back prohibition

I would rather have Obama reschedule cannabis, thus ending prohibition and getting this issue off his desk so he can focus on other issues and so congress can save the money he is spending on his crack down. He has done the opposite of this, he has instead issued what amounts to another Holder memo. That is all this latest move amounts to. It is an empty promise to respect the states decisions, but not a commitment to do so.

You can squirm all day in your attempts to absolve Obama, but the fact remains, he could simply reschedule cannabis. He is leading the charge now and opted to continue cannabis prohibition.

Name a President in the last 50 years that has done more to end marijuana prohibition than Obama
What did Obama do?

He told Merica he would stop arresting so many folks, who took him for his word, then started arresting way more than any president had. Nice tactics. Nice waste of money.

And I commend him, he got millions of idiots like you to love him for it. I believed his lies for a while too. I voted for him in 08. He really outsmarted a lot of us.

He could just order Eric Holder to reschedule cannabis, with no other authority needed from congress or any other part of the gov't. This would end prohibition. Instead of calling off his dogs, he has cracked down and congress gave him a bigger budget to do so.
