12 dead in Washington. Oh and it's another ar-15. But it's ok it's not like that gun has been used in... Like all the recent shootings. Isn't this the part where the gun people say "if we armed everybody this wouldn't happen"? Yep... Bet there was no guns in a navy hq...
ALLEGED to be an AR-15, alleged by an anonymous informant who must remain anonymous because he is forbidden from discussing ongoing investigations, and yet he discussed it... just enough to point the finger at a gun, rather than the one holding it.
and no. MOST of the personell in the navy yard are unarmed. once you get past the pickets and the gate guards, most bases in the US (and most overseas too) are LESS armed than the average city streets in in New York.
why?
being subject to the UCMJ rather than the US Code and State Law, every military base prohibits the carrying of arms unless under orders to do so, resulting in a general lack of arms among the populace
further, the fast response of the military police, coupled with their rather vigourous treatment of civvie criminals ensures that your average hood stays away from the base, resulting in the residents feeling safer, and thus being less apt to strap up illegally
and just to put a cherry on top:
because people in the armed services are less likely to be members of street gangs, less likely to wind up in prison, and less likely to be criminals in general, regardless of their "socio economic backgrounds", race or other identity politics categories.
if this chucklehead had gone on a similar rampage in new york, boston or san francisco he would most likely have racked up a much bigger body count or escaped the scene while the cops were still pulling on their britches.
the takeaway is not "evil gun slays 12, including gunman", but rather "ANOTHER nutbar unloads on ANOTHER unarmed military base, killing 11, before finally somebody with a gun pops his top"
