Sorry I bought a stupidly big bong today and my family is recently again giving me shit for being single so I'm venting. A lot of my friends are starting to marry, a lot of my family already has, and now my cousin just got engaged. And my family couldn't be happier. Thing is, he's my age and my family is really laying into me lately about at least starting dating again.

I haven't had a serious girlfriend for over 3 years at this point, and honestly, I'm happy. I have nothing against relationships, they can be great. I just have had to deal with mostly the opposite.

I dunno, I'm just bitching honestly. Has any of my fellow RIU'ers dealt with this? I mean I totally respect marriage and relationships and all, but its not for everyone. Why is the end goal in life a monogamous partnership? Do you know many people that have actually achieved this? It's a tiny number of marriages that actually last, and last happily. Why the fuck am I made to expect this?

I figure once my life is stable enough to get into a relationship I will, but I'm happy with or without a relationship. I have certain things I want to achieve yet, sometimes I feel a relationship would put brakes on that. When the time comes or that right girl crosses my path I'll be all about it but for now I'm happy as can be.

ive been in one long term relationship after another for over 10 years, ive been single for all of 9 months during that time and 6 of that was a prison term. I have 4 kids with 3 different women

Whats it even like to be single?

Work 2 jobs 60-80+ hours a week , bolth jobs are sausage fests

Im quite and generaly keep to myself

I have lived a life that could make a good horrior / drama movie without fear

But women scare the shit out of me

I agree with Kinetic on this one - I have been lucky enough to be with my soulmate for over 30 years, and I cannot imagine living with out her.

I was 30 when I married and had a kid. Still have the kid, not the marriage. I too was rushed by family and knew from day one, even at 30 shit was going wrong. With a average of %50 divorce rate I wouldn't do shit till you're ready. Kids are great but you don't want them around broken families, just fucks them up. The problem is having a kid at an age where you're still able to be fun and not an old fart. This is a topic I don't think anyone living in a Western country can really give good advice about.

If I could go back in time, I would skip having the hot American chick for the wife and went abroad on vacations and picked up a wife.

What's it like working for free? Seriously. If any of those women are vindictive bitches, I truly pity you for the family law system flogging you are getting for 20 years.
