100x100x200cm Tent, 600w HPS - WHAT VENTILATION ???

Here is a general rule of thumb for size lights and fan sizes.

250w 4" fan
400w 5" fan
600w 6" fan
1000w 8" fan

Like I mentioned. In order to remove your lights heat and ventilate you'll need 500m3/h.

I use a 400w and use a 480m3/h fan.

That rule of thumb is different everytime I read it.
I read that 600w is enough for 15 sq ft (105cm x 105cm).

Much of the information I am receiving is contradictory.

I thought that 1.2mm x 1.2m may be a touch large for a 600w (specially an old 600w).

Isn't it better to have a little too much light than a little less than perfect?

The reason I am advising a large inline fan is because you are choosing a big light in a small tent.

Realistically you should have purchased a 1.2x1.2x2 tent or a 1.5x1.5x2 tent for a 600w.

J
I can purchase a 1.2 x 1.2 x 2.0 tent. Cheaper than the 1.0 x 1.0 model. But I read that the area is on the outside limits for a 600w light?

I must be making a mistake with my sums. The article you posted the link to (above) gave a set of rules and equations to find the perfect Cubed Feet per Minute or Meters cubed per hour.

1.2 x 1.2 x 2.0 = 2.88 M cubed
2.88 x 60 (minutes) = 172.8
[plus 25% assumed loss of efficiency]
172.8 x 1.25 = 216 M cubed per hour.

Plus another 25% efficiency drop (due to being in an exposed room - rather than a dark basement)
216 x 1.25 = 270 M cubed per hour.

Or am I making a mistake?
This is for the entire area of air changing ONCE every minute.

4" fan won't cut running a 600w AT ALL!!!

5" fan will run it in an air cooled reflector during winter BUT NOT SUMMER

6" Fan will run it all year long without the need to air cool.

A 600w is at best good enough for a 1.2x1.2 forot print with 3ft of penetration.

If your lamps are new but ballast is 2nd hand then its basically NEW!

The idea of more space helps to dissipate heat better and give you better environmental control.

For example. Here is a room I built a few years ago.
https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/441212-my-new-closet-re-design.html

This was a 600w air cooled with its own dedicated fan for just the lighting. I had a cold air intake as you will see for the lights alone.

Then I had a second fan to exchange the air and clean it via a filter.

Temps were still a little tough during summer.

If I were you I would make sure I had the following.

Tent
600w bulb ballast and standard reflector.
6" RVK150E2-A1. 480m3/h fan
A 6" filter rated above 480m3/h
Oscillating fan.

Then you can run a test cycle to see what your high and low temps were like for a 24hour period.

Then if you find they are too hot the only thing you need is an air cooled reflector.

Yes your math and that article are correct but notice the structural layout.

It assumes a 1.2x1.2 active growing area for plants in a room larger than the 1.2x1.2 active growing area. This helps to dissipate the heat as already mentioned.

This is real first hand experience talking from using a 600w in a MUCH larger area than yours.

OK, then.
I'll order a 1.2 x 1.2 x2.0 tent and a 6in fan.

I'll check e-bay now to see how much I can get the fan for....?

What do you think to this?
"Please know you will have to buy a wire and plug to wire up and use the fan"

It's twice as much cash has I expected to pay...
It would mean me having to wait another 4 to 6 weeks in order to afford it all....

But it does look like a proper bit of kit!
And doing everything you can to:
a- Grow the best/most
and
b- Ensure no smells bother the neighbours
are worth the money ad the wait....

PERFECT!!! Worth waiting for the funds to get it before starting otherwise you'll have a stressful 4-6 weeks of uncontrollable heat and possible plant death without it.

Good job on getting the 1.2x1.2 tent it will come in very handy having a little extra space to add extra fans or dehumidifier etc.

The rhino filter should last around 2-2.5 years aswell for the money!

Do you plan to use seeds or clones?

If seeds the 600w is a bit much for starting seeds.

Don't get me wrong it can be used but needs to be about 4-5ft away from the seeds.

I personally use a small 24w T5HO 6400k for starting seeds but I have been known to pop beans under my 400w.

I've actually sent you a private message (well-less public than a forum) about the seeds verse clones issue
Years ago I knew a few guys who had great clones (at £5 each) they had a few different types of mother plant and they were real botanists = real connoisseurs of quality smoke.
I was an avid traveller and I'd always find a way to bring a little Manali or Masada I Sharif or Chitrali or zero/zero back - and they'd repay the compliment with their excellent home grown. It was very friendly rivalry purely for the bragging rights.

Now I only know my cousin - and he's terribly unreliable and he doesn't even know if it's indica, sativa or ruderalis that he's cloning!

I'd like to do a clone crop first, then prepare for seeds and become self sufficient.
I don't like many people knowing my business.

You sent me a visitor message. Anyone who visits my profile will see it.

In response,
In order to do a 24hour test cycle you need
Your lighting
Your fan and filter combo
Oscillating fan
Temp gauge.

That's all.
