Good info thanks Frenchy i'm using my master bathroom with the window open as I'm in Canada and its cold out side lol. I know your against freezing your trichome Frenchy but this time I though Id try the micro plaining and I have to tell you it worked great. I did everything the way you do untill the chopping I pout it in the freezer for 10-15 min thats all it took, the micro plainer was also in the freezer for a few days and i have to tell you the hash instantly looked white untill it started piling up on it self. what I'm trying to get at Frenchy is I was totaly with you about freezing the trichomes but I honestly think that there not in the freezer long enough to do damage as far as the micro plainer doing damage I will let you know once I look under the micro scope, just thought I'd pass on my experience lol

I think you would have the same result using the fridge and not the freezer before chopping/micro plaining but I am here to learn as much as to teach especially on water extraction which is kind of new to me.

In my view freezing trichs is no different that freezing them in ice water. When it's 20 below zero F outside it's a good time to screen cannabis without using water or solvents. Then you bring them inside and they get all sticky and gooey again at room temperature. I love sifting in the big outdoor freezer.

next time I will try the fridge, the only thing with the fridge is you may have to put the piece back in the fridge more often then if using the freezer. Also to get the the hash in such small pieces using the chopping method may do just as much damage as micro plaining who knows but I do plan on doing a comparison then looking under the microscope to compare

Awesome Shawns! I have been wondering about it. The main fact is that the smaller it is, the easier it is to dry. I did experiment once with the micro plainer but mainly to see if there was a change of color when pressed; it was whitish compared to the rest of the resin glands chopped from micro to not much that were different shade of caramel, but color became uniform when pressed.

Frenchy when doing a whole plant run do you still trim the buds first, I know you cut the fan leaves off but do you still trim as if you would keeping the buds and then do you cut the buds from the stem as much as possible or do you leave the buds big. Thanks again for all your help

You should most certainly keep the trims on the flowers if you process the whole plant. When the plant is dry I let the water do the breaking, if the plant is fresh you will have to cut the buds from the stem.

Hey Charsi, sweet movie of how it really was. As you can see they dry full sun (decarb???), store in shaded places, sieve super light and sieve 2 to 3 time their trichomes (only one with Lebanese), they always use a source of heat when they press, even if it is only to warm their hands.
I was tutored by two Afghani refuges in Delhi for 3 years before they moved to Canada but never went to Afghanistan, 1980 was a tad too late. It is pretty cool to see the different size of plants that seems to be due to conditions and soil.
Thanks man, very appreciated
Frenchy, I'm glad you dug the film and you sure did "see" or understand what they were doing as evidenced by your reply. Thanks.
I'd like to rephrase my previous question if I may 1. If you were going to process a couple of ounces of Indica bud at a time for hash with no intention of retaining the herb itself except for edibles[no commercial intention just a quest for quality hash] How would you do it personally ?

No trick, just pull harder. You will find a lot of junk and should do that after every session

I've got the title of Subs biography. "The Life of a Pot Star". And it should include all the pot stars he's come in contact with through out his life. It's really quite interesting. It's a can do story, about a guy who rebuilt his life some very real losses. America loves those kind of stories and his passion for cannabis is tremendous and real. He's ran to Europe to work for Gypsy Nirvana, disowned by his family which I can relate to. He's done it all and for a very long time and has a lot of stories to tell and meets interesting people along the way like Frenchy.

Thanks Frenchy I couldn't get it out after the first so I used my pump sprayer to spray in the small holes and that and a lot of stuff did come out although I'm sure I didn't get it all and thats why I was asking about taking it out and I didn't wan't to break it thats why I asked, its hard to get a good grip on I think thats why I'm having problems lol I"ll get it now that I know what to do. Thanks again Frenchy Respect

Hi Frenchy,
Just ordered the machine and a set of" Cannoli" bags from Lady Stef, so should be ready for ice water, but regarding gentle sieving of dry buds would one of the bags work for this too? If so which one? If not, what size would you suggest[screen or bag] ?

BTW going back and reading the thread from the start I'm learning a lot but it is humbling when I realize the scale most people have to work with here. I hope I'm not bugging anybody with questions pertaining to very small hobbyist/personal quantities and total neophyte concerns.

The melty crumble has dried beautifully :-) Pressing should go down soon enough.

Clockwise from the top left is 73u first and second wash, 73u third and fourth wash, old cannoli busted up into small pieces (I want to re-press it), 45u all four washes, and a mix of iso bag wash powder with scissor hash.

73u first and second wash.

left is iso powder and scissor hash, right is 45u.

Don't worry about quantity, because it is all about quality here so no problem my friend….
When you say gentle sieving of dry buds do you mean dry sieve Moroccan style?? If so the 190 and 160 same as with water.
