The downsides to air cooled are your night and day temp swings will have to be managed by other means. You lose light. More equip and ducting. If fan fails bulb will over heat. Id rather have a 10lbs hood fall than a 30lbs one.

Fuck an air cooled hood. They are overrated. Point a box fan or mini fan at that fucker. Place filter at highest point. Oversize fan and filter, vent to another room or outside or place setup in a cool area.

No need to mix coco. It will stay fluffy no matter what. Personally im more fond of rockwool and perlite as media by themselves than anything, but they require certain parameters to be met, that can be complicated and /or expensive to meet.

See this is why im thinking about going back to one of my older methods for best consitancy, of half organic soil mix and half soiless feeding half strength. I tried this with coco and peat. coco was way better, the organic soil made able hold moisture perfectly, and balance ph.

Shocks them? I might have to try this, like add an extra week to veg after plucking then throw them into flower.
