    My ballast (transformer) is hot

You can find economy kit ballast boxes at most online hydro stores. I have never had a magnetic ballast that is cold to the touch, and I have 2 -150w, 1 250 watt 1 400 w, 3 1000 w. Now; I can say that my "digital" ballast stays cool. Worth the money too. Peace

Leaves and stems pointing down after day 1 of flowering

From what your reply; I believe it is nutrient burn, I would use water only until I saw some vibrant new growth. What is burnt is burnt. Time to make sure the plant uses all the stored nutrients before feeding again. Should not take to long.

Leaves and stems pointing down after day 1 of flowering

It looks like a watering and PH issue. If it is almost dry. I would water with PH 6.5 nutrient solution. On the other hand; picture is a bit blurry; I am not sure you have not got some nutrient burn, but you did not mention adding ferts...? A soil dampness meter would be a good idea also.

    My ballast (transformer) is hot

I think I would find a metal box to put that in. These transformers always get hot as hell. Good Luck.

Auto's ready for harvest at different times?

That is good advice. If you really have to harvest; Place them in a Brown paper bag. Fold the top over, but let it breath. Cover it with newspaper or brown paper to sheild extra light from penetrating the bag. Hope this helps :)

Square up your hps lamp; You will get better reflection through the entire canopy, and below. Move all other lamps below canopy to boost under growth. :)

lots of small plants or a few bigger ones?

I limit plants to 5-6 in that space. This is a matter of choice and grow techniques, and what type system, soil or hydro etc, figure into the final choice. From small clones; Many plants. From seed. I would stay fewer plants. Good Luck, and Happy growing. Peace :)

Best choice of supplemental lighting in my situation

I would consider raising the top lamp; IN a tent you are getting maximum reflection, I like the idea of the 600 watt side light if you can keep the temps in check. Last time I used this method; I had to open one side of the tent in order to keep the HID lamp a safe distance from the plants...

Winter Growing / Humidity & Temp

I agree temps in the Low 70's is perfect for flower. Are you using a radiant heater or a fan driven heater? A fan driven heater may lower humidity; While a radiant oil filled unit is perfect for keeping the room mildly warm. :)
