All BS set aside CMH yields

if thats true, how come the CDM 860 can draw an extra 100w on a 1kw mag?

    self watering probes...do they work?

I am trying to put together a setup like this that hooks directly to my filter on the faucet. My current plan is to have an adjustable nutrient pump to tune in the ppm's, on a digital cycle timer, along with a digital sprinkler timer. PHing is not neccesary, so that hurdle is not an issue. I...

All BS set aside CMH yields

definitely a worthy investment for $30. what did you find out when you tried your other HID ballasts? was it just with the CDM 860 on 1kw mag ballast you found this on, or other HID setups as well? I ask, because you mentioned that you switched right over to LED after seeing the results. That...

Why is there a dimple in the glass of my DE greenpower

I was shocked to see, right on the middle of my beatiful new DE bulb, looks like a glass nipple/dimple. I thought at first it was a manufacturing defect, but the more I look at pictures of the bulb on other sites, it appears that they all have some sort of little round bump in the middle of the...

Is there really such a thing as "too much light"???

Have you grown the SFV in a different lighting setup? SFV is a big producer, so it using a lot of nutrients is not neccesarily a bad thing, unless it is being caused by over saturation. I'm not sure if over saturation is possible using led's and cfl's, because of their limited spectrum, but...

I didnt mean that they are the only ballasts for the 315 CMH, they run on any old ballast, just that AFAIK the only ballast that matches the bulb specs closely. there may be others out there that may be better than a 400w mag, but I wouldnt trust anyone but philips to make a matched ballast...

All BS set aside CMH yields

@ttystikk I was afraid of this, when using old mag ballasts. I never could find out for sure, I heard mixed things about this, so I am happy to hear I will be running a more eficcient setup for cheaper. I wonder if the nanolux and sun system have the proper ballasts. although I highly doubt...

Is there really such a thing as "too much light"???

assuming you are using HID which most people are, 50w per square foot is a good mark to shoot for. 75w per square foot might be over saturation which is not good. This might change if you are for example using 50w per square foot of HPS and 25 w of MH or FS light, since they are on opposite...

All BS set aside CMH yields

where do you get your information? the 860's were never meant for horticultural use, and if they are truly that inneficient on old mag ballasts, that doesnt mean they inneficient to begin with. with the proper ballast CDM bulbs only need about 135v or something real low, so there is obviously...

All BS set aside CMH yields

The Old 400w Retro-White, the new 330w CDM allstart, are the same exact spectrm. the 315 elite MW "LEC" that sun system and nanolux are selling are similar spectrum but different. Nanolux and sun system are calling it CMH and "LEC" and pretending it is something "special" or proprietary. but...

All BS set aside CMH yields

I wouldnt agree that its garbage, Philips makes a high quality product. It was never designed to be used as a horti bulb, which is why you might consider it garbage. Its more of a high quality streetlight. The old 400's and now the 330/315w 4.2k's all have a nice supplemental Horti spectrum...

All BS set aside CMH yields

CMH is not discontinued, just the old "Retro-White" is gone. but the new "CDM Energy Advantage AllStart" lamps are even more efficient and use only 330w on a 400w mag ballast. and it can be hps or mh ballast with the new allstarts. there is an 860w version that runs on a 1000w mag ballast, but...

Which DE Bulb has the fullest red spectrum and highest umol output?

Is there supposed to be a nipple looking thing in the middle of the glass on the greenpower? whats that all about? wouldnt that mess up the light spread on the focal point reflector, or otherwise? I can post a picture if no one else knows what i'm talking about. thanks

Which DE Bulb has the fullest red spectrum and highest umol output?

haha thanks, I was hoping that was the case. so there are not two different versions of the 1000w DE greenpower? I want to go with Phillips over gravita(haha) even though they claim to have 50 more umol, and they should technically be the same piece? The Ushio doesnt seem to be much different...

Which DE Bulb has the fullest red spectrum and highest umol output?

I have finally decided to invest in double end hoods and lamps, since one of my nice ballasts was already double end capable, and I was able to get another identical ballast for next to nothing. I am having trouble with bulb selection though. Every bulb I find seems to be the SON-T PIA green...

Can I use a 400 watt lamp with a 430 watt ballast? HPS + CMH?

yeah I actually decided to invest in double end hoods and lamps, since one of my ballasts was already double end capable, and I was able to get another for next to nothing. I am having trouble with bulb selection though. Every bulb I find seems to be the SON-T PIA green power 1000w/w00v EL...

Can I use a 400 watt lamp with a 430 watt ballast? HPS + CMH?

I am also wondering about this very thing. did this ever get determined or tested? I'd rather not burn out a bulb they dont even make anymore. Again this is the phillips CMH made to be a drop in replacement for 400w hps mag ballast

Curious about how the Solis-Tek 10k bulb compares to CMH

rkymtnman, Ok cool thats the reptile bulb I was looking at. seems like a bargain for $12. they put out a fair amount of UV dont they? when you say this bulb is replaced by a 15.0, are you referring to the "UVB 150" marking on the label. The description still says its a 10.0 from what I can...

Curious about how the Solis-Tek 10k bulb compares to CMH

Yeah unfortunately they dont go below 400nm because thats below the point where the human eye can see. well were not trying to grow humans, were trying to grow plants, that beenefit from both UV and IR. I saw that chart for the Phillips CMH for first time about 6 months ago, and decided I...
