i dont often get political, but this could literally be the end of this site and all the others as long as cannabis is federally illegal https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-new-law-that-killed-craigslists-personals-could-end-the-web-as-weve-known-it...

those have a nice thick base and should work ok. i would cap it tight to the top of the fins to force airflow between the fins as opposed to over top of them

so the tube covers the heatsink to create a channel? the only thing i would consider is maybe little fans inside to blast air right over each chip.

how hot should i expect a 240w meanwell

the 480s have about 4 times the surface area and are slightly more efficient as well. where youre 240 could be dissipating a little less than 25W of waste heat the 480 has a much bigger case and is prob dissipating just over 35W of heat

how far is it practical to have a meanwell driver dc leads ?

    its 100% proportional to current

how far is it practical to have a meanwell driver dc leads ?

depends. if you are running a low voltage driver in parallel, half a volt can be a 10% difference in current if youre operating near the top end of the driver. in your case with the constant current driver you prob (but not always) have voltage to spare

Would people buy a heatsink that allows water cooling?

yes its one of several limiting factors including Rj-c and Rc-h if you want to discard water, which is not very green agreed. also apart for cost a passive heatsink cannot fail. ask @ttystik about the perils of a complex watercooling system when fittings leak, you have condensation issues...

Would people buy a heatsink that allows water cooling?

that is commensurate with my experiences. starting in a chilly warehouse with a pinfin heatsink at 10-15C, the first par measurement you get while everything is cold is only nominally higher vs steady state. temperature is definitely a factor in efficiency but really only significant when you...

Would people buy a heatsink that allows water cooling?

"many times" is a stretch. *maybe* up to 10% improvement if you significantly drop the temperature 50C or more and maintain same current. you can drop heatsink temp significantly, but you still have the case-to-heatsink thermal resistance and the junction-to-case thermal resistance to deal...

    dimming one meanwell driver at a time = 100k pot 2 drivers at a time 50k pot 3 drivers = 33k etc.

its all about the current. voltage will follow the curve and theres your watts. the only reason it couldnt achieve a certain wattage is if voltage and current were limited

Would people buy a heatsink that allows water cooling?

i dont know of anybody using 10 cobs on a 2' bar. typical person uses 1 cob per 12-18" so the heatsink cost would be 2.5-4X as much (disregarding cost of water cooling rig which can be substantial if it involves a chiller)
