If you top dressed there should be nutrients available, so it's probably a lockout issue. You mentioned molasses, tell us how you're using it. Molasses is really acidic, accumulates quickly in your pots and can cause pH issues leading to lockout.

I've made partitioned areas or close off tents with Orca Paper. They did the job but they weren't sealed or tight or anything. Orca paper is good, it's heavy duty and can be used over and over. A few cheap adjustable clamps make building the frame way, way easier.
