    Worm Bin Questions

I think I’m going to try rice hulls, as they will eventually break down in my no-till beds. Oh and maybe just a touch of biochar I have leftover. I’m not sure exactly how many worms I have now, but I started with like 2-300 around 2 month ago. I’m wondering if I should mix up more or less of...

    Worm bin upgrade

I was just about to set up my bins with 1/3 aeration an 2/3 aged manure. From what I read, and from clackamas coot specifically, is to use pumice/lava rock as the aeration. I have one question with this though, do you screen the aeration our after the castings are made? I will mostly be...

    Worm Bin Questions

So from what I've gathered (mostly from clackamas coot), aeration is key to a good worm bin. So basically, you use 2 parts aged manure or thermal compost, and 1 part lava rock/pumice. What I'm confused about is what happens to the aeration when I'm done, do I just separate it from the castings...

    Worm bin upgrade

I can also get spent grain(from making beer) for free from the place a get my malted barley. Should I hop on this? And use it in compost pile or worm bin?

    Worm bin upgrade

I've been meaning to add some rock dusts, I will do that when I switch bins, and rice hulls seem like they would provide good aeration, but I don't love the idea of biochar for my worm bin, as the castings will be going into a no-till bed, and I wouldn't want to just keep adding biochar (already...

    Worm bin upgrade

And for shredded paper/bedding, how do I know what is good to use? I know shiny paper is bad, but what about flyers like this? Don’t get the newspaper here anymore, so I’m wondering about other alternatives? I’m using cardboard and some old newspaper right now, but I’m just about out.

    Worm bin upgrade

Thanks, I think maybe I’ll just drill holes and cover them with screen or such, or cut out a patch of the lid and cover that with screen. I put a bit too much scraps/MBP in my bin now, so I’m going to wait a week or two to let the conditions correct themselves before making the switch. What...

    Red wigglers?

Yeah it gets quite cold up here and I don’t have a ton of room in my yard for a large worm bin, so a 20 gallon will have to do, and I‘ll keep it in my basement which is usually around 65-70 degrees. Any good suggestions on how to make the worm bin? There are so many designs, but I’d like one...

    Worm bin upgrade

hey guys, I’m looking to upgrade my worm bin from a 5 gallon bucket to 20ish gallon tote. I currently am using a 2 bucket system, with holes drilled in the bottom of the top bucket for drainage, and I cut everything but he rim off the lid, and cover with a t shirt for air flow. Here is the...

    Neem/Karanja cake

Yeah, I’ll be cooking up the soil for at least a month(I’m on day 14 of a 70 day flower cycle). Planning on mixing it today, actually!

    Neem/Karanja cake

I bought some neem and Karanja cake, and it’s in pellet form. I have some Neem meal from somewhere else and it’s much finer. I’m just wondering if I should grind it up at all for mixing into my soil? I know I should grind it finer for topdressing, but just want to be sure. Here is a pic with...

    Red wigglers?

Maybe separate wor ill add to my outdoor pots, my indoor will be no-till, I think red wigglers would be best for that. Mixing my soil for organic no-till as we speak!

    Red wigglers?

Yeah a few of them looked darker red and a bit more like the wigglers I have, just hard to tell, and even harder from the picture! So if they were added to my worm bin, would that be good or bad? Only bad I can think is that’s night crawlers and larger and don’t eat as much, so they would take...

    Red wigglers?

i was doing some weeding in the yard and came across some worms. I’m just wondering if anyone is able to tell which are red wigglers? And if you can help me to distinguish the difference. Thanks, was planning on upgrading my worm bin from a 5 gallons bucket to a 20 gallon tote, could use...

    Malted barley

Well, I’ll look into the EM1, but it seems uber expensive in Canada! But it seems the advice is to make my own, and then like you said, I can use different types of bran. Thanks for the advice, guys! For now I may just buy a bag, probably better than nothing, right?

    Malted barley

Ok, thanks. I think I read somewhere it is hard to get that EM1 in Canada, but I'll look into it. Would you say the store bought stuff is comparable? I know its more expensive, but I probably don't need much. And damn, sucks about the leg. Hope you've got some strong herb though!

    Malted barley

Yeah I just seem to be getting two different definitions for “Bokashi”. One being the Bokashi bran that you add to food scraps, etc. And the other being the end result of using the Bokashi bran with the food scraps. Was just confused which it is you add to your soil/worm bin.

    Organic Soil

I can’t seem to find that on amazon.ca, and they don’t deliver to Canada, unfortunately. I have not done a soil test, I haven’t even made my soil yet, and my homemade compost and worm castings aren’t finished yet. I intend to do so once I have it set up, and make adjustments from there. I’ve...

    Malted barley

So would this be the end product that you make (or similar, at least)? https://www.amazon.ca/Bokashi-PlusTM-Culture-Mix-Kg/dp/B015Y0R4DQ/ref=sr_1_2?hvadid=74698108136558&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvqmt=e&keywords=bokashi+plus&qid=1558387438&s=gateway&sr=8-2 I am only making about 75 gallons of soil...

    Organic Soil

Is there any way to do that with the fish bone meal? Or should I just use it on my outdoor gardens/lawn lol And do you think I should stick to alfalfa in a tea/spray over adding it directly to the soil? Like you said, I don’t want to overdo the N, but I think you get most of the sapanins from...
