Yes the soil was too compact. I have since transplanted to some potting mix and will pray for survival. I doubt excess acidity was the problem where I live it is very limey and i was using local soil. Maybe exceed humidity as that dense soil was staying wet for bloody ages

Have now transplanted into a very light bag mix. I'm confident they will pull through but the transplant seems to have shocked them as the bottom leaves are yellowing slightly. But I will try and keep that mix slightly damp and give it time. How much sun should I give them during the recovery...
