yea read a few places that it works to up your PH a bit for flowering so I also try to keep it around 5,6 to 5,8 in veg/early flowering and up it to 6ish in the end

yea same PH as hydro, 5,6-6 every thing that is soilless actually, the soil works like a buffer (if the soil have the right PH too start with)

lol was just about to post that link, and yea hemp is nice enough and is considered semi hydro here is mine in a 5kg plagron bucket I had Maerl in not any notable different from my plants in soil, but I still like the PH/nutrients buffer that comes with a good light and airy quality soil

I personally would go for a LED panel more, HPS light do make a lot of heat, maybe a small 250W in a cool tube with a good 4" ventilation could be fitter in there, but in such a small space I would for sure look at LEDs, big CFLs also produce some heat, so that is not the route I would choose...
