Fella I gotta say I don't know what it would take for you to see that defoliating is nothing but harmful to your plants, I really don't. The pics you post actually illustrate this. At 5 weeks it should look much better than it does but it can't because you have it stunned so bad it's fighting...

Well there ya go, thats how ya do it. Get down with mastering how the plant grows with just a coupla plants, then ramp up the quantity.

Yea, this can be an issue for sure. The OP mentions space issues using closets etc... I dunno, I know a guy on another site that has it worked out that he is harvesting one plant a week. It's impressive, but it's also a lot of work and a few fuckups along the way can cause a trainwreck and...

It's called going " grow blind " ...when your looking at the grow so much that it doesn't seem like its getting anywhere. ....A perfectly normal occurrence :)

May be actually a mild case of windburn more than stress from the light. If its hot in general and you have a fan a little too close it can look like that as well.

Theres lots of debate about that. If your growing in soil and your water doesnt have some kind of wild swing to it then no IMO its nothing but a waste of time. Now, not everybody feels that way. Some believe that mother nature walks around with a PH pen in her back pocket. I use city tap water...
