1000W hps is a bit of a waste in the early stages, get as many cfl's as you can for veg and when they get bigger, 4 weeks or so, you can use the hps for good results.

Should be fine, lot's of people need to adjust the PH of their water, especially with hydro.

They do get very hot and with clothes a definate fire hazzard, either move the clothes or stick with cfl's.
