That sounds like it may be a chance thing that worked for one guy so now it's written in stone somewhere and got dug up to become the new truth.

Soil is the only problem I have growing plants. You need oxygen and to clean off the root of dead stuff from over watering. I would look at hydrogen peroxide for a solution till they start taking water and growing again. Plants that are young don't need Ph'ed water as they are not taking in...

The room with the 315 CMH is 48 x 48. It's very roomy in there. I had something wrong with My mix yesterday and there was some leaf burning so I turned the nutes down to 530 PPM. I'm not sure what it was I did add some hydrogen peroxide to the mix but, not a lot. The plant looks fine today but...

We are growing with smaller lights so, 3x3 makes sense. maybe a little bigger to make room for stuff (fans etc.).

The smaller plant has a little more Indica dominance with the larger leaves. I will be placing the Early Vixen into My garden as there just is not enough room for these cute little plants inside. I'll wait for warmer weather to do that.
