That coir pot looked pretty thick, try Gen Hydro's 3" coir pots, they are nice and thin roots go right through them.

*-- Sounds like you just diagnosed it, fertilizer burn along with wild pH flux. Not much to do but continue with a mild fert regiment, no additives for a while pHed @ 5.8 and see how they do from there.
