Buy your adjuster from a hydro shop. I use PH adjusters made for adjusting fertilized water, the up contains potash and the down contains nitrogen and phosphates. These are things a plant needs anyways.

yea I imagine that your waters ppm would not drift too much, but don't you need the meter to know what the ppm/ec levels you're feeding your plants after you add ferts?

I use the cool mist humidifier by holmes, I got it from walmart, it a different model you have displayed. It keeps my room at around 40% RH during the dryest winter months.

in a closed container or two plates stacked it will stay wet for a couple days, then just mist the paper towel if needed.

put em in a moist folded over paper towel then put that in an empty dvd case on top of your cable box. good to go.
