No way was it too early, that plant already had some great branching activity. No worries man she's gonna turn out great.

Oh, one more thing. Don't freak out if you don't see new growth for a couple of days. Doing this shocks the plant a lil bit, in a couple days you'll see those new branches start to take off.

I bet if you would have flowered the plants when they were shorter you'd have denser buds, cfl's greatest weakness is light penetration. Impressive results none the less, look nice and crystalline. +rep

Cut right here, just above those little branches. In a couple days you'll see them turn into the main vertical shoots on the plant. It should keep the plant much shorter. The other plus is that the branches from the bottom of the plant will grow while the top is stunted, so they'll catch up...

I'm here for you bro, no worries its really easy, just make sure you have a sharp blade like a razor blade or a pair of nice pruning shears.

This is a picture of what you should end up with if you do everything right. This is a different plant that had both of its side branches at the node I topped, you can see where I cut the main shoot, and that the side branches grow vertically to produce two new prominent vertical shoots. :hump:

Here's a pic of where I cut mine. Keep in mind there should be branches just above each fan leaf, each on opposite sides of the main shoot. The fact that there is only one on my plant is a bit of an anomaly...:-|
