for three plants I would recommend 5-6 daylight flourescent bulbs for their veg period. You can buy them at home depot, do it center, or any hardware store

I got ten daylight cfls in my veg box, its about two feet tall, two feet wide, and a foot and half thick two of them are on the door of that box.

as long as you dont get miracle gro with ferts in it, your fine. Perilite is good if your overwatering it. Its not hard to not over water the plant.
