Is it necessary to germinate a seed in a paper towel? or am I just as well off placing them directly into soil? Ive got some really nice seeds that I dont want to screw up. Itd be great to get some advice from the experts!

Im pretty sure my soil is depleted; plants have almost ceased to grow as of the past 2 weeks. Regardless, I bought some MIRACLE-GROW and put a little less than the reccomended dosage in it. D Does miracle grow work? Please let me know.
