DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

I have plenty of wire and bits. I mod consoles so I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron. I'm not so great with the science behind leds but I've never had a problem wiring them up. This is a work in progress. I have bought 2 vipar panels to try with while I build this light. Would these be...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

@SaltyNuts I would use a fin style heatsink inside the tube with a thermal compound between the 2 and have a fan mounted over heatsink pulling cool air across the fins. I also saw on digikey, cob heatsinks. Exact fits. I will have a look at cpu heatsinks but sure I read somewhere that they...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Thanks man. Heatsinks are expensive lol. Thinking of using an aluminium square tube http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminium-Square-Box-Section-x-12-pre-cut-Sizes-x-8-Lengths-/360941104777?var=&hash=item5409c42e89 If I get the 30cm long and have a cob at each end with a cooling fan mounted at each...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Tbh I don't know that much about them. I was hoping the 3 cobs would be enough if I made them individually. Which driver would you recommend . Hoping to pull about 200w? If I have been reading right the leds are 100w each Edit: these are the lights http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/8092212/

    600w viparled GSC grow journal

So my smart pots turned up today. Not as big as I thought but hopefully big enough to see me through flowering. Had to water heavily last night as their peat pots were really dry. Like to try and keep them moist

    600w viparled GSC grow journal

Lost one last night. Was limp all day. Another pic on day 4 :) EDIT: my other 65w cfl turned up today. I have a fan on them from a few feet away to stop temps going too high. So they now have 175w total light. We will see how they respond to double the light :)

    600w viparled GSC grow journal

I will see how they do under the cfl for a couple weeks. May do 2 weeks veg under 1 of the led units before adding the second panel and flowering them. They seem to do Ok in veg. Only time will tell I suppose. Been going through old equipment and have found a 45w red and blue cheap panel I got a...

    600w viparled GSC grow journal

Vipar have got quite a bad rap. Of all the generic panels they were best I could find within my budget. Even the 600w vipar panel only uses 310 true watts. At least this way I'm getting an extra 50w. I will see how they perform. If they don't do well I'm gonna build myself a 600w cob panel...

    600w viparled GSC grow journal

Reason being I have kids. Last thing I need is them coming in the bedroom and asking loads of questions about the noisy black box. I am gonna vent straight out the top into the non existent loft space. So fresh air from the room as passive intake. It might work. It might not. This is an all new...

    600w viparled GSC grow journal

Ok so here is a pic of seedlings and their box. Made from some spare cladding I had left from building a garden shed and painted white. Is only a temp home so not too worried. There were a couple light leaks but sorted them with some white mastic :). Will post updates daily if I can. There is...

    CFL PC Case Micro Grow

hey blujayz, thank you for the elaboration. what i forgot to mention was that the ambient air temperature is 24.5c / 75f, this will be running through the winter months when there will usually be a avg tep drop of 7-8c so ambient temps are usually 16-17c / 61-64f. as far as i can tell this...

ive seen more than one person pull an oz+ with 69w of cfl. im not expecting huge amounts by any extent. if i feel it is necessary then i may buy a 125w envirolite but probably not. and worthwhile depends on the persons perception doesnt it?. dont really see how putting an exhaust fan on top is...
