Do you know how to use chopsticks?

    poppy seeds???

one of my favourite movies of all time. the only poppy growing tip i've gained so far is: they don't transplant well. choose their "forever home" before you plant them.

If you have ever ___ ____ _______ __ you might be a pot farmer!

if a bunch of heatbags start an obvious-even-to-non-growers grow down the block from you and you're the only one that's secretly ecstatic about it.....

    White specs on leaves

looks like thrip damage. a neem oil spray will keep them away for a wee bit, but i've never had them outdoors so i'm not much help on how to get rid of them. sorry.

White fluffy stuff inside of bud during harvest.

ideally you want to leave yourself a 'clean' radius of at least 1/2 inch around what's visibly affected.

    Plants "talk" to plants

there's a newish doc that addresses plant communications as well, it's a "nature of things" (david suzuki) episode called "smarty plants"..... such fascinating stuff. unfortunately this link is available to watch in canada only (sorry danny) but it's the only place i've found it in full so...

White fluffy stuff inside of bud during harvest.

i just want to reiterate that botrytis isn't generally a post-harvest issue; depending on the conditions involved, it can spread VERY voraciously but it would have started while flowering. i asked about pulling/pinching because if you're susceptible to it, you want to make sure any 'wounds' you...

    Thinking about Metal Halide...

i use T5s for supplemental lighting with 1000w HIDs and i don't think you'll get the 'better penetration' you're looking for unless you go for a 400+ watt unit.... and even with that, i still think a 4 bulb T5 offers better coverage in square feet without the excessive heat headache. if you...

    Vancover

if you have your paperwork, the local disps will help you. if you don't, either wreck beach, grandview park, or the vancouver art gallery steps are your best bets for finding non-schwag. (or, as Shawns says, there are a few really good delivery services if you can find one.) if you're looking...

White fluffy stuff inside of bud during harvest.

here's another question: when you have dead/dying leaves, do you pull them out or do you pinch them?

White fluffy stuff inside of bud during harvest.

textbook budrot aka botrytis aka grey mold; would have started before you even harvested. tends to attack the top nuggets first (hence why you found it in one of your bigger nugs). it's a bitch because it tends to start from the stems and grows outwards. and it's not easy to find unless you're...

    kitty's flower garden part 2

mango lily is loving the heat, i'll try to remember to get some pics when the sun comes around. yes, we're spoiled up here for summer temps - when just barely 90 degrees is considered a "record breaking heatwave"

    kitty's flower garden part 2

there's not much to update...... like i said, i haven't really been doing a lot of gardening this year. i'm trying to coax a second flowering out of the delphs and roses right now and once the lilies are done that's pretty much all i have going on for flowering stuff..... waiting on some...

neem oil being stopped in canada

maybe it's just the horticultural grade/brands? the lady i get my lotion-making supplies carries it and hasn't said anything about discontinuing it. she charges me less than i used to pay for einstein oil too.

    kitty's flower garden part 2

as far as i know they're the result of isolating a recessive trait in asiatics, many of the bulb catalogues have them now, they're generally marked as such, and i don't think there's any special tricks to growing them. this page from The Lily Nook catalogue has a few, "Easy Salsa" looks an awful...
