Just because its sucking water up doesn't mean its flooded. It'll do better with that air gap.

You say your flooding the cubes? If you can try to drop it low enough for like a quarter inch to be submerged should help out. The cubes should soak it up She now has the entire bucket.

Yes over watering can happen in hydro... i lost a plant due to root rot. Drop your water level.

This will help a little better than silicone. Needs a 3/4 inch hole. And will fit your half inch barb

I was trying to offer that as a solution. The barbed elbows that came on my bucket even leak. How much wiggle room does the barb have going into the bucket? Do you have a gasket along with silicone?
