Nice set up. I would not worry to much about them only being that tall after a week. Mine are about the same hight.

I would have to say yes they are a little close. I have read that you want them about 6 inches/15cm from the plant. If There to close you risk burning the leaves.

okay, i have a 3pin cpu/case fan that runs off of DC. I found a AC to DC adapter. The case fan has a ground wire and the adapter does not. I have never had to wire something with a ground wire. so the big question is what do i do with the ground wire?

I have also have been lurking around and this is my first post. I have read around a lot and i think think i have the answer. I believe the bare min is 3000 lumens per square foot.
