I have a soler palau fan venting my 36" x 16" x 32" cab. I originally had a 4in passive intake with that 4in fan but it was still a little too hot.. so I made a louver. It works great and blocks light 100%. Thinking about it in your situation though it might be hard to cut out a fat 5" square...
