if you know the spectral distribution of your lights (easily gotten with a $10 spectrometer*) you can generalize the response of a cheap LUX meter (usually centered at 550nm) to be equivalent to a true quantum meter for simple analyses like light distribution. I'd only think of a quantum meter...

IMHO trying to duplicate SOL (point source LED COB at 500-2400W) is just silly as you run into similar heating issues ;) with uneven light distribution. Its much better to distribute your LEDs over the entire grow area; everything is better with a multitude of light sources.
