i don't see any mites there it would look like someone sprinkled some salt along the spine of the leaf.

look at the black dots?that looks like thrip poop but you need to look at it with a microscope. i would feel better if you see one moving and can see if its oval or round.

i got a moisture meter when i first started but i never use it just lift the bucket and you can tell if its dry or not i got the cheepest ppm meter and ph meter off ebay they were like $15 each and they both work great and make life a lot easier.

i think its mites and they will get a lot worse in a few days home depot sells hot shot pest strips for $6 they help but you really need a strong chemical made to kill them like floramite for mites or spinosad for thrips but lady bugs eat them both so if you have some do that asap..look under...

if you can't find any webs look for tiny white dots moving a little bit or eggs under the leaf.i catch them in my run off water thats how i found out what i had.

you have bugs get your mag glass out and look at the bottom of your leaves..

i got the cheep one from ebay its the yellow one for $15 shipped it came with cal fluid and it works great i use it almost everyday.

this is what thrip damage looks like but i have spider mites too so its hard to tell who's doing the damage.either way i'm pretty sure there thrips and i ordered some spinosad already the only thing is i have not seen them fly around and that should be the next step for thrips.

if i could not see the mites in your pic i would say you have thrips judging by the leaves. can you look around your soil a little and check your run off water for tiny white dots swimming around you might have both its common the thrips seem to follow the mites.they look like mites but are oval...
