The water in a glass method is pretty much fool proof.. I used to do the wet paper towel method but that can dry out if you're too baked & forget to check. I use the water straight from my tap, I don't bother pH'ing it..

Yeah that's normal it's just the remaining moisture moving to the drier parts of the bud etc. Make sure you 'burp' the jars so you don't get probs with mould..

No, it is better to freeze first..These are the instructions from my Ice Bags:

Dry out your trim & small buds completely then put in a bag in the freezer for at least 24 hours (assuming you are making bubblehash with ice bags?)

Can't really tell from your pics can you post some up that are a bit closer?

The netting holds the soil together once saturated, they are designed so you don't have remove it like TTT says the roots will grow through the netting easily
