I that ice-cream tub semi-transparent? if so, cover it with some duct-tape or something to stop any light getting in & also use black air-lines as transparent/clear ones will let light in your res & encourage algae growth.. good luck with the DWC grow!!

You dont have to use hydroton but something that blocks the light from the reservoir is highly recommended I have used coco blocks in 5" net pots with good results like these ones here & put a layer of pebbles on top...

Mine look very similar! just tried my first attempt at cloning in the last week or so & mine looked like that.. did you dip them in a hormone powder or gel? I used a powder & my stems are in rockwool look almost identical to yours.. just wondering if we have the same problem.. Am trying a DWC...

That's a sign that the clone is rooting as it is taking the nutrients from the leaves.. not a bad sign at all..
