A friend sprouted a bunch of lemon seeds and gave me some that were in rough shape rootbound in a super tiny pot...I've moved it up to a one gallon bag and have been trying to turn it into some kind of a bonsai. I don't have pics of it of how bad it looked right when I got it in December but...

Why are we as a whole not adding more "real dirt" to our soil mixes? One of the beginning chapters of Teaming with Microbes talks about how clay particles add surface area to the soil which improves it's CEC. I'm doing my own experiment to see for myself. I've used my same recipe in two 15...

I dont use peat moss...I use coco, castings, real soil that I dig up, compost, and perlite as my base, it works wonderfully. I don't check pH but research would say that the coco will keep a more stable pH than peat will, plus from an environmentally conscious standpoint coconut husks are way...
