Why did you choose the z4 bin cxa? The ab bin is easily available in cxa and the cxb ad bin is great too.
Using two hlg-185-1400b drivers may be a little cheaper and you would be able to dim it if desired
Blurple lights are missing important parts of the spectrum. Even NASA knows this now. Plants respond better to white light. It is also proven that uvb does increase trichome production but I have never seen it proven that is the only way to increase them (two seperate things).
My thoughts on...
Most cobs follow the same principle of becoming more efficient as the current decreases. If they did make 10,000 lumens at 100w they would probably make more than 5,000 at 50w.
The cmh I used to run would need 10 minutes to cool down before it would fire again. If the power went out it wouldn't reliably restart on it's own. I would have to manually shut it down and wait to refire.
How efficient are the 3w chips? You would need to start there. Another thing to keep in mind is that plants don't necessarily like being deprived of a majority of the light spectrum. Red and blues chips will work but adding all the rest of the colors (white leds) helps.
I wouldn't take them off yet, plenty of time for that later. It would remove about 25% of your photosynthesis right now. Bend those tops down to get the "manifold" started.
I haven't figured out how I will build my press yet. Do you have a link or info to yours? I tried the hair straightener with crap results. I was going to let the market play itself out and wait and see what comes out on top for personal use.
The 100w cmh was cool tubed but it was still to much. I'm currently planning an 18"x36"x72" perpetual cab with the goal of having enough output to have smoke, edibles and ROSIN! It will still be 100% stealth.
Its totally stealth and I dont live in CO. My only goal is to provide for myself and have enough to share with my friends. I make edibles with the trim and smoke the high quality nugs. I started with cfls but they were crap, moved on to a 70w hps and it was whispy buds at best. Tryed a 100w cmh...
What do you consider a full spectrum? I'm just trying to understand your recommendation. Was it just throwing a bunch of color spectrums together or based on something else?
