Yes man you are right. I've got AC hit several times, when i touched my heatsink, i thought it's because of ground somehow shorted and disconnect it. After that, the shortage disappeared, but now, after your explanation i understand the problem. The thermal protector fixed by thermal glue...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Hello all. Can you help me with calculation for CXA 3070/0.7A passive build heatsink dimension? I plan to use black anodized heatsink like this: I think 1 ft of it might restrain my cxa temps. What do you think?

    COB holders - the basics

Is it dangerous for chip to work only with optics clamp? Seems like it fixed cob tight, and i think it's way better than kapton fix. For what purpose there is chip dimensions edging used in this reflector clamp if an ideal or other holder should be used? Did anbody had success with reflector...

    COB holders - the basics

So, i need a holder by ideal then i need a holder for reflector, isn't that too complicated? I tapped holes for screws, made "vacuum" with thermal paste, fixed by a "non-holder", and it's not enough...this is really pisses me off. Could you show me why it's not enough? Why Ledil isn't mention...

I really admired of your work Supra, you are the person who brought me in to cob's universe, but let me disagree with you. Your and other "lucky" (sorry for using this word) diy builds with capton tape can't be generalized. It's just imho, i'm not trying to insult you. I think my case is proving...

Yeah pics will be soon. Can't get to the place right now. I'm IT engineer for 15 years, applying TIM isn't much differ from CPU installation to get the "vacuum seal". Almost identical light is working without any issues. I think my TIM doesn't meet Cree requirements for TIM's, as well as kapton...

No, there wasn't any bubbles or impregnancies at the back, but i think Kapton loose it's tension due to temperature fluctuations, as well as compound loose it's "vacuum" because it dried. So, if there was a holder, i think temps didn't get that high.

Both of them, mb Kapton is not the way to fix the cobs even with "vacuum" pressure.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I can't explain this..two cobs, same environment, working fans...no lens. One is damaged, i think it's temperature... When i dissasembled it i saw my thermal interface dry, so it's 101% overheating. No one knows, how much degraded second cob but it doesn't look damaged and works well.
