    12 yrs. of darkness lol sounds like the title of a movie. Make sure your using containers that block light from getting through to the roots. If all you have is a white drywall bucket, paint it black.

    Use insulated ducting and wrap your fans with insulation. If you go to buy another fan look into an axial fan, they are really quiet. I can't hardly hear mine running with the insulation over them. I'll try to get a pic up. This is a link to the manufacturer...

    how many lights?

    I wouldn't have a 600w any closer than 12" and that's with good air flow, 18" with a 1000w. If a bulb is in a hood, the coverage is determined more by the shape, size and reflective efficiency of the hood than by the bulb or wattage. The Epics I use are rated to cover a 8'x8' area.
